Mega Man Mobile brings Capcom's classic 8-bit NES platformer to iOS -- the first of six Mega Man games coming to iPhone and iPad for $1.99 each. The game tasks you with helping "Blue Bomber" Mega Man defeat Dr. Wily and his ruthless gang of robots.

Pros

Choose your level of difficulty: Normal Mode gives you infinite continues from the last of the many checkpoints you passed in the current stage. Hard Mode limits the number of checkpoints within stages and continues, as well as your ability to recover from enemy attacks.

Two attack modes, three ways: You can press the attack button for one Mega Buster shot at a time. Alternatively, tap it over and over or hold it down for rapid-fire shots.

Customizable gameplay: You can customize sound levels, choose between Normal and High gameplay speeds, and reconfigure the placement of the attack and jump buttons.

Cons

Low frame rate (FPS): Mega Man Mobile's low frame rate makes the game look like a choppy slideshow, and the gameplay is so jerky and slow that it's virtually impossible to time your jumps and attacks. The High speed only helps marginally.

Lackluster controls: If you're used to swiping your way across levels, you'll be sorely disappointed by Mega Man Mobile's poor touch controls.

Bottom Line

Mega Man Mobile is not ready for prime time. Let's hope that Capcom brings it up to speed with a mega update -- or a mega overhaul.
