  Pros

  Worked well but but takes 1 to 25 seconds per email download. Showed complete emails when requested.

  Cons

  After having downloaded ~400Mb of emails sucessfully, I returned to download more and received a message that "your USB stick is corrupted, please click here to restore files" from the computer. The computer spent 1and 1/2 hours grinding away and then froze. So all the stored amils were lost along with everything on the USB stick.

  Summary

  Hope to find what caused the corruption and freez.

  Pros

  Stores mails in a separate folder which never gets skipped by backup programs and you can easily move the mails from different mail clients to another. And it's free! What do you need more??

  None so far.

  Good program for everyone who wants to keep their mail in a safe place.

  Pros

  I wanted to close my Gmail account that I no longer use, but save the emails without exporting them all to my new webmail provider, not least because they would lose their original dates, they would only show the date I transferred them. So I easily installed the portable version of MailStore in Copy.com (cloud and sync) and then all it took to archive my emails was to enter my Gmail address and password into it. Not only were about 1200 emails transferred in a few minutes, but the original folders were retained, too - that was very pleasing, I wasn't expecting it. Those mails are now very easily accessible for reference, with a great search feature too, without me having to find a Google page and log on each time I want to look at any.

  Cons

  The software took a bit of finding. Most suggestions I found online (searching with DuckDuckGo, not you-know-who) said to to transfer emails to Outlook, which wasn't really the solution I was looking for. I only found out about MailStore in an obscure way, it was mentioned in one of the comments on a blog post on the subject.

  Summary

  Little to do with the above, but thought I'd mention that while I was poking about in my Google account looking for closing it (they don't make it easy to find!) I discovered there were two outfits listed as having access to my basic account. Glad to have quit!

  Summary

  I ran the install, but nothing comes of it. A folder with files was created in the Programs folder (Windows here). But it is not listed under Start > All Programs, and when I try manually running it by going to its folder and clicking the .exe, I get an error message that it can't do anything. Too bad for me.

• Solid as a rock

  Pros

  Been using this free software for probably five or six years now, and in my experience, it's solid as a rock. Have never had problems, and one friend who had her index corrupted was fine after we rebuilt it.

  Cons

  Get many duplicates if you index both your mail client (Outlook, Thunderbird) and your underlying account (Gmail). No way to de-dupe these if they were indexed separately.

  Summary

  This free email archiver is solid as rock, and has not let me down in many years. I also found that I could keep different computers in synch just by setting the mailstore folder as one that I do synch (just don't synch while the program is running).

• Finally! An easy way to archive web mail!!!

  Pros

  Provides an excellent way to archive web-based mail. Works with Yahoo. Supports IMAP, allowing access to folders (not just Inbox). Allows including or excluding specific folders. User-defined profiles provide reusable configurations. Nice ease of use features like a Create Shortcut button for profiles and a Test button for connections. Excellent integration with Mozilla Thunderbird. Search is blazingly fast.

  Cons

  Configuring IMAP access can be a bit tricky if you are a novice user, though MailStore has made it about as easy as it can be. You need to lookup the parameters your Internet service provider recommends and use those. Occasionally seems to stall while archiving large volumes of email in folders, though possibly the problem was at the IMAP server end (Yahoo) rather than MailStore itself. Fortunately, you can cancel and run it again and it quickly goes through the mail it's already archived and then begins working on the remaining mail. Does not allow access to MailStore data directories on a remote drive. I'm not sure why the product has this restriction -- likely to prevent performance complaints. But I have a gigabit LAN and a NAS at home and would like to keep my archive on its redundant storage rather than on my local drive. The developer (or dev team) should rethink this limitation.

  Summary

  Overall, this product is brilliant. Were it not for the occasional stalling during archiving, causing my to have to cancel and restart, I'd give it 5 starts. Mind you, once I archived all my email more than a year old (over 1 Gb), it now runs very fast when I run it every few days. If you have been keeping hordes of email on someone's web server and want to archive it in case it's needed at some future, this is the tool for you.

• Undisclosed limitation of archiving only 3 IMAP accts

  Pros

  The application has lots of promise - it is easy to add email accounts for archiving. Archiving is quick and easy.

  Cons

  What the developer failed to disclose, even on their website, is that you can only have 3 IMAP profiles in MailStore. If you have more than 3 IMAP profiles, you get an error "MailStore Home is limited to 3 IMAP Archiving Profiles. Please delete one or more profiles and try again." The thing that is most annoying about this is that this limitation is not disclosed anywhere.

  Summary

  Undisclosed limitation of the number of IMAP profiles that can be archived is deceptive and is the reason for giving MailStore Home 2 stars.

  Pros

  Easily configurable. Works quickly. Maintains e-mail and attachments for future reference.

  Cons

  None that I can think of.

  Summary

  I use this to archive my E-mail and remove it from my clients about every three months. I just move everything to archive, then when I have time, I delete all the junk I don't want to keep right from the program. This keeps my client free and available for new mail, and allows me to dispose of junk when I have time.
