Used magicApp Calling & Messaging for Android?
Editors’ Review
magicApp Calling & Messaging enables you to make free calls anywhere in the world through Wi-Fi or 4G provided that the receiver has the app installed on their device. It integrates with the companion device magicJack, which makes your home and business phones ring at the same time, so you'll never miss a call again.
Pros
Good-quality calls: With magicApp Calling & Messaging, you can expect good quality international calls so long as you have a strong Wi-Fi or 4G signal; our Wi-Fi calls were especially good, with the person at the other end of the line having a clear voice and hearing us perfectly.
Reliable: Just as the developer promises, this no-hassle app can really help you save money on your phone calls, especially if you travel or work overseas or in another state and regularly call your friends and family back home. It's a stable platform for long-distance calling, devoid of major errors, lost connections, or other technical issues.
Straight to the point: Save from the registration process that requires an email confirmation, there are no complicated settings to configure, no distracting buttons or features, and no ads.
Cons
Slow interface: Although the UI sports a clean and neat design with a blue toolbar at the top of the screen through which you can access all of the app's functionality -- Recent (Calls), Contacts, Account, Keypad, and Voicemail -- in our tests it proved somewhat lagging, ever after a restart.
Annoying voicemail: Until you get your first voicemail, a prerecorded tutorial on how to use this feature keeps bothering you. What's worse is that it integrates into the notifications bar (where it features tiny Play and Stop buttons that are hard to tap and unresponsive) and keeps playing in the background unless you press the big End button.
Poor Keypad audio: The keypad for dialing the numbers you want to call features high-pitched dialing tones like the sounds a children's toy phone would make, and cannot be disabled.
Bottom Line
A well-executed app, magicApp Calling & Messaging lives up to its promise, offering an easy-to-use, reliable calling platform. Even if you already use Skype, you may want to give this app a go -- it doesn't have as many features or such a huge user base, but its straightforwardness and clarity make it instantly appealing.
