Maelstrom is a particle-systems screen saver for Windows. It uses a fully realized three-dimensional graphics engine to evolve a wide variety of themes over time, producing innovative and original visual effects that are absolutely stunning. The program includes twenty-two unique themes. When active, Maelstrom randomly cycles through all selected themes, smoothly transitioning between them, often with breathtaking results. Variety is built in, and the result is that you won't end up watching exactly the same things over and over.

Maelstrom also offers something that no other screen saver can match. Simply select a checkbox, and all themes will be rendered in red/blue anaglyphic 3D mode. When you wear a pair of 3D glasses (which are mailed to all registered users free of charge) the objects will literally leap off the screen.

All positive reviews almost definately written by the person who made the screensaver, nobody gets that hyped up about a screensaver, specially not this 1. <p> <p>eg. "I can't wait for the next version. I've been hearing rumors of some pretty cool new themes that may make it into version 2." <p> <p>Where the hell have you been hearing these rumors? The screensaver underground? <p> <p>Dont get your hopes up too much about this screensaver, its hardly the masterpiece these reviews would have you believe

This program isn't all that great. I just had to wrote this to keep this thing from being as overrated as it is. The effects are basic, nothing that will push your hardware to the limits.

I've been running Maelstrom for a couple of months now and I totally love it. The transitions between the various themes are incredible! I've asked these guys how they created these effects, but you really have to see it for yourself. I use a 2 minute theme interval with a 30 second trasition time and it is almost hypnotic to watch the two themes merge. I'm also very impressed with the Colliding Galaxies theme. I've always wanted to see those sort of dynamics onscreen. Wow. I can't wait for the next version. I've been hearing rumors of some pretty cool new themes that may make it into version 2.

I don't typically rate software, but this program is so amazing, so professional, and so different from every other screen saver out there that I had to respond. How on EARTH did they do this? If you want to be blown away, look no further. It's only 217K to download, has a two click installer (with uninstall if you don't like it), and it worked perfectly on my computer. No adware, spyware, or anything like that. I agree with them that this is, hands down, the most advanced particle system screen saver in existence.
