Designed for CAD users of all levels, this software offers a full complement of drawing tools as well as both ANSI and international standard dimensioning capabilities. Its multilayered, scaled drawing environment supports both feet/inches and metric dimensions. In addition, MacDraft Pro offers linked dimensioning to automatically update dimensions as you modify components. MacDraft Pro allows you to save symbol libraries which can contain all of your commonly used drawing items. Microspot also supplies at extra cost, a symbol library of 2000 items comprising architectural, electrical and graphic symbols. Perfect for producing simple sketches or complex drawings, Microspot MacDraft is excellent for mechanical, architectural and engineering design, as well as for technical illustration. MacDraft is so easy to use it appeals to those seeking a powerful, low cost solution for their drawing and drafting needs.
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
This has been going on for years. Same old verse, same as the first.... Microspot uses the users to troubleshoot and then makes a half-a** effort to fix things. They come back with a lame attempt calling it an upgrade with a whole new set of buggy problems. What's really amazing is that they still actively market and apparently SELL this defective product which used to have so much potential. If only the company would devote some time to really get MacDraft back on track...a potentially simple, easy-to-use, reasonably priced architectural drafting program with true associative dimensioning. With every "up-grade", I've had high hopes only to lose hours of work because of some weird buggy sh*t. I've been at this for some time (since MD4), so I know what I'm talking about. I've spent countless hours E-mailing some poor guy on another continent since local "support" is useless, even right after my purchase of 5.5 a couple of years ago.
I gave up on MD some time ago, but have to access old files from time to time. A crash almost always occurs while revisions are being made. I've since moved on to reputable software company who offer forums, phone and email support and keep their product current. Granted the price was more, but at least I'm productive.
Just so everyone knows who is contemplating a purchase: At least on a Power Mac G5 with the OSX forget about doing architectural drafting....you will crash, you will lose data that you'll never get back, and you will spend countless hours trying to either recover, redo, or communicate with a company that just doesn't give a rat's a**.
5.5.8 Better

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
5.5.6 & 5.5.7 were disasters but 5.5.8 seems stable. I did get it to crash once on a very large drawing above 14meg. I definitely recommend for the price. I which they would add some new features and fix some line drawing tool that don't work correctly.
No Problem with the 5.5.6 update...

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I had no problem with the v556 updater going from v554 on my PB17. I had previously run a permissions fix and rebind (using Cocktail)...so having a clean system and permissions may have contributed to the other users problems.

The application MacDraft works fine for my limited needs otherwise though...and considering the prices of real CAD type drafting systems, this one is reasonable.

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I have tried updating this program pointing the updater to any MacDraft file I can find on my computer and it says no MacDraft to update. I have MacDraft 5.5.4 working on the PB G4 17 just fine. Tried installing on G5, it will not update there either. Why no response from company or others? Perhaps a 1 star rating here will get something done.

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I had high hopes for this product because of its ease of use and versatility. Unfortunately, despite its good price point, it has no value to me since it routinely "quits" during projects. This has resulted in my losing many hours of time and sometimes complete jobs, since on several occasions, I've not been able to recover my lost files. Tech help is unresponsive on big problems like this. I get the feeling that they don't know the product that well or are simply resentful that I'm "bothering" them. By the way, I'm running on a new Power Mac G5 w/ dual processors & OSX 10.3.6. I had a pure environment when I first installed the program, and buggy stuff (too many to list) started happening right away. I'd have to agree that this program is a disaster in its present state.

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Purchased 5.5 when it was introduced. First installed it seemed OK but printing was terrible. After working on a project for about 4 hours (having worked in MacDraft for many year I save very often because it can be quirky) I routinely selected a line tool which had been used many time prior that caused most of the drawing to disappear and other drawing to move to other layers and some layers to go away. After that MacDraft was un openable, it crashed on launch with a dialogue stating "...unexpectedly quit" Same problem with v5.5.1 and 5.5.2 except printing was improved in 5.5.2
Now, I'm back using 5.1.1 waiting for 5.5.3 or .4 or whatever works

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
The addition of transparency significantly improves MacDraft's usefulness to me. The interface for transparency is straightforward and consistent for lines and fills. Given the demise of ClarisDraw, ClarisImpact and ClarisCad, MacDraft is a good choice for those looking for a basic 2D drafting program. For those migrating old drawings, I believe MacDraft is the only current program capable of importing MacDraw II documents.
My biggest complaint is that justification and line spacing options apply to an entire text object and cannot be applied to individual paragraphs.
By far the best support I have ever received!

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
For over the past year I have had 50 users who have migrated from ClarisCAD, ClarisDraw and MacDraw environments. While technically proficient in their jobs, they are normally not proficient in learning new applications, hence their continued use of the legacy environments. With MacDraft v 5.0-5.1.1 there is a much smaller learning curve, with 99% of the users praising MacDraft for its ease of use and increased performance and functionality. The like minded application structure has allowed my users to become proficient in a relatively short amount of time with few headaches along the way. Any true problems we have had have been quickly addressed by Jason and Juan in the tech support department for Microspot. I continue to look forward to further development and increased functionality from the MacDraft team, and am certain that once our old drawings have been converted, we can finally say goodbye to OS 9.
For the price, performance and support MacDraft is the only 2D program for our needs.
