LotsaWater for Mac is a free water-themed screensaver that looks quite good on newer Macs, even those with retina displays. The screensaver is exactly as it sounds, a rippling water effect that takes over your desktop when the timer goes off for your screensaver. It looks fantastic and it offers a nice alternative to the screensavers built into the OS X system.

To install the file, just open the image and install the screensaver file that is unzipped when you do. Your screensaver and wallpaper preferences will open immediately and you can choose this new screensaver as your default, as well as change basic settings for things like the time it will appear, how long it will play, and any special effects that play in the background. The resulting screensaver looks great and is compatible with newer MacBooks and iMacs, too, so it's a good upgrade for any of the existing screensavers you have.

Nice effect. I wish it worked as advertised, though.

Where it fails me is putting water on the desktop snapshot. Instead my screens go black first and the water appears over that, invisibly.
Summary
Instead I have it pick a photo out of my collection and replace the desktop with it and then show the water. That works. I have a 13" MacBookPro running 10.6.4. We'll see if 10.6.5 fixes anything. I am using an Asus 24" external display through a mini-DisplayPort to DVI adapter. Still have the problem when not using the display.

This screensaver renders a fairly realistic water effect over your desktop, showing it distorted through the wavy surface of the water as raindrops fall on the surface. It uses quite a bit of CPU power. There are configuration options to vary the accuracy of the simulation to fit the processing power available.
