Taking unit models from the classes and races of EverQuest's massively multiplayer RPG, this knockoff adds nothing to the RTS genre and suffers from a range of problems. As in most real-time strategy games, you have to mine a resource (here, platinum), build units, and destroy the enemy base or perform other typical missions. Of the three factions in the game, the demo lets you play only for the Dawn Brotherhood. We found the units either too weak or too strong. The game has serious control problems, too. You can't build formations, and your unit's behavior reverts to "aggressive" each time you issue a movement order, so keeping them from suicide attacks becomes a problem. EverQuest fanatics may be eager to load this 200MB demo just to see their favorite clerics and dwarves in another setting. However, we suspect strategy buffs won't be much interested in this good-looking, but in other respects mediocre, RTS.

I don't play this kind of game, but I downloaded the demo and had several hours of fun with the tutorial and 2 real levels. I don't know what the state of the art is, but the gfx and sound sure impressed me. Kudos for the symphonic martial/foreboding music, and the beautiful scrolling terrain and special effects like fire and lightning. The combats and quests were not too easy, and got my pulse racing a bit. I'll bet the full game is well worth the money.

my opinon was that it was fun, but too short to really understand the theme of the whole game... theres three levels you can play and one of them is a tutorial, so you cant get a good feel about it... none the less, it was fun while it lasted therefor deserving a thumbs-up ps:also, "Soulshorne", you have way too much free time and your computer sucks cuz mine never froze...

These notes are all about the CURRENT state of affairs in regards to the "Single Player Demo" of LoEQ on this site. These comments do necessarily reflect the actual game, or any other actual Tutorial works, other than in which this opinion/factumentary is attatched. The tutorial works. Which is much better than faulting out like thier previous "Demo" here. Whilst this download CLAIMS to be a 1st person demo, it downloads as a 1st person Demo, Installs as a TRAILER, and plays like a tutorial. Truth told, This has only been thru 3 tries. I have not as yet erased my entire DX files to see if this download messed up my DX system settings(Which we all know is danged fragile as it is), nor tried any games that USED to work yet. In short, I could play the tutorial which is REALLY fascinating: 1) You left click on a unit to select it. 2) You left click and drag to select multiple units 3) You right click to send selected units to a point on the map. 4) You select "peasant-type" units (in this case, spiders) then *GASP!!!* select a building for it to build, or a building in which to harvest from. 5) You select a building, then *GASP!!!* select a unit for it to build. Never having thought that this was how to play a RTS, I was fascinated. *Sarcasm, for those not aqauinted with it...* <8^)P Unfortuantely, clicking on anything other than the Tutorial and Options results in a repeated framelock/soundloop, requiring an entire system shutdown. Alt+f4 is a no go, Cntrl+Alt+Del just laughs at you. In short, if they had not already sent 1 single player demo out that would not even install, THEN this one that installs but only semi-plays, we could be interested. If you are like me, download and install it anyways. You at least now get to see the general graphics (ummm, oh, BTW, go to the highest graphic setting your system can handle, or the entire screen will allow you about 1.75" by 2.25" of visual space, the rest is taken up by menues. They CAN, however, be disabled/enabled at the very top in a dark horizontal strip. OK, I KNOW it is better to have them out and allow us to remove them... But chat bars (in 1 player!?!), Character Pics (AGAIN, in single player TUTORIAL!?!) and suchlike taking up to 89% of viewable terrain, and requiring players to dispose of them in a TUTORIAL (Umm, did I note that they do NOT tell ya how to remove them, THAT part ya have to figure out yourself...) is a bit much. Put the resolution to 1024 x 768 and ya can see a good 35% of the map/area you are viewing from the recommended 800x600 that allows about 7%. Greater resolution (1280 x 768) creates a goodly 48% view. Removing 6 of the 9 windows (Such as character portrait) does much to increase the view of what you are actually doing. Much like PCG said (tho I assume they actually got a working full demo, SUPRISE!) This game is much like WarcraftIII. However, for us old turds, SINCE WC3 (Wow, ok, I REALLY did not mean to make WarcraftIII look like an acronym of Water Closet 3. For those of you reading this and thought that I WAS, ok, yeah it was funny, but that was not intent. Now move on, I was trying to be serious, seriously. Ok, now I have to restart the last paragraph... *sigh*) However, for us old turds, SINCE WC3 was about the last honestly fun RTS, LoEQ should be good, assuming you still choose beta testers rather than confusing them with paying customers. Note: Some will claim RoN(Rise of Nations) as an RTS since WC3. TECHNICALLY, they/you are correct. However, I speak of a game you can play for more than a few days before being glad/understanding why your brother gave it to you 3 days after he bought it. Which reminds me: Sheesh, PCG, I want some of whatever your reviewer was smoking when he gave RoN a 94%...
