Used KeePass Portable for Windows?
Editors’ Review
In just a few short decades we've become dependent on the Internet to manage large portions of our lives, from our finances to our friendships, our entertainment to our exercise routines. With all these online resources come slews of passwords, and we don't think we're the only ones who have trouble keeping them straight. KeePass Password Safe Portable is a lightweight program that lets users keep their passwords handy and secure.
The program's interface is plain and intuitive. Users are first prompted to set a master password that controls access to KeePass. Then it's simply a matter of entering the Web sites that you visit frequently--or, perhaps more importantly, infrequently--and their log-in information. KeePass will keep the information locked up tight until you forget your password; then simply select the site you need information for and copy the username or password. True to its name, KeePass Password Safe Portable is small enough to fit on a thumb drive, making it possible for you to carry your passwords with you securely wherever you go. We also like that KeePass comes with a password generator that creates strong passwords; it's a much better option than using your dog's name for everything. The program's online Help file is well-written and intuitive. Overall, KeePass isn't flashy or exciting, but it is an effective and easy-to-use way to store passwords and keep them safe.
KeePass Password Safe Portable installs and uninstalls without issues. We recommend this program to everyone.
What’s new in version 1.38
- When double-clicking the URL cell of an entry in the main entry list while holding the Shift key, KeePass now copies the URL to the clipboard (a double-click without Shift continues to open the URL; the option 'Copy URLs to clipboard instead of opening them' reverses this behavior).
- Added yellow intermediate step in password quality progress bars.
- KeePass now excludes itself from Windows Error Reporting.
- The pattern-based password generator now supports repeating escaped characters using '{...}'.
- The pattern-based password generator now refuses to generate a password if the pattern is (partially) invalid.
- HTML export/printing: KeePass now generates HTML 5 documents (instead of XHTML 1.0 documents).
- HTML export/printing: improved internal CSS.
- CHM pages are now rendered in the highest standards mode supported by Internet Explorer (EdgeHTML mode).
- Migrated most of the documentation from XHTML 1.0 to HTML 5.
- Upgraded to Boost libraries version 1.72.0.
- Various UI text improvements and code optimizations.
