Users with specialized document deletion needs will find the standard trash to be insufficient. DocShredder for Mac performs its single function well and scrubs files from a Mac without any problems.

DocShredder for Mac, available as freeware, requires no payment to unlock or operate without restrictions. Download and installation occurred quickly, despite the lack of a native installer. A license agreement file appeared after download, but no acceptance was required for operation. The program appears to be very simple with no menu for operation. The program installs a small icon in the dock, which you can use exactly as you use a trash can. Clicking and dragging documents to the icon deletes them, purportedly in compliance with DOD removal standards. Unfortunately, users must be careful about which files they place in the icon, since the application instantly deletes them. Files are not stored, but are instead immediately removed with no way to retrieve them. The program would do better to emulate the trash can and store the files for later clearing, as mistakes can happen.

For those who need a simple file scrubbing tool, DockShredder for Mac works well, but its instant removal of files could be a problem for some users.
