iScream for Mac provides you with a one-click voice recording feature so you can easily and quickly record and save voice notes or any thoughts or ideas that cross your mind. It can be configured to run from the Menu Bar, the Dock, or both. Although it's extremely basic, having few options and features, this app is worthwhile because it works flawlessly and produces very good quality recordings.

iScream for Mac's main window resembles iTunes a tiny bit. It lists your recordings and allows you to play and delete them with ease. Do keep in mind, though, that deleting recordings from the app still preserves the original files on your hard disk. In terms of customization options, the app doesn't offer much, though it does let you change the recording output directory, select a microphone and a file type, and change the placement of the app icon. To start recording, all you need to do is just press the app icon; to stop recording, press the icon again and your file will be saved in the preset location. The app supports popular formats such as WAV and MP3.

iScream for Mac can encourage you to use your Mac microphone more often. The quick and convenient way in which it lets you record your voice makes it a useful app, one good to have on your hard disk. Download it with confidence.

Little Quirky - But good first time out

Pros
Simple and has WAV, AAC and MP3 for output. It has a representation of what the sound is that is being recorded. The sound which is inputed appears to be of the right volume to record.
Cons
It appears if you set too much in the way of customization that the recorder will start recording when you don't want to. Does not have an adjustment for volume going into the recording, but appears there is no need to have that adjustment for note taking and conference recording.
Summary
This is a good first time out for freeware. Unlike the claims made by NCH Software, this appears to actually be freeware. Would have liked to have a little more customization with settings as mentioned above. But, if you just use it from your doc alone with the small window opened, this is adequate and good replacement for AudioRecorder which is no longer support in Mac OS X 10.9.5. Am running this on MacBook Pro 2009 machine. Since this is the first version of this software am rating a 4 instead of a 3.5. Like this simple app and is at a good price, free. Thank you MediaHuman.

Once turned on, either with with one click or hot keys, iScream will monitor all sounds in your room unobtrusively. You have a choice of MP3, M4A or WAV and several frequency/bit choices. If you need to refer back to a conversation ["I NEVER said that!" "Yes, well, listen to this, Darling."] You can open the resulting files with almost any player and and open and edit in Audacity. If you leave your room unattended, you can return and hear what happened. In Audacity, there will be waveform spikes to indicate increased sounds, such as the babysitter not following the rules of employ. While not a brilliant invention of software, iScream causes no trouble and does what it promises.
Cons
None I have found.
Summary
IScream is a valuable, unobtrusive room monitor or jotter of thoughts, song ideas or anything you need to get 'on paper' now.

iScream is a freeware application for Mac OS X. It is designed to record audio from microphone, line-in or another input audio device easily. And save it in MP3, AAC or WAV format. The main idea of this application is to sit in the dock and wait for a click. Just click on dock icon to start recording. To stop click on dock icon again. So it's good for a voice records, voice notes and other sound recording things.
