Security enhancements addressed previous vulnerabilities, with the inclusion of the Phishing Filter. This tool scans websites in real time, warning you of potential threats. ActiveX controls also received updated security settings, restricting unauthorized content execution. It introduced Protected Mode on certain operating systems, limiting potential damage from malicious software. Combined with automatic updates, these security features strengthened defenses against online risks.

Navigation improvements included a redesigned interface with simplified menus and icons. Introducing a built-in search box enabled you to access search engines directly without additional toolbars. The Favorites Center organized bookmarking, offering a collapsible panel for quick access to saved pages, browsing history, and RSS feeds. These refinements aimed to improve usability, allowing for more organized web access — though, it had performance issues compared to newer browsers.

Toward modern browsing

Internet Explorer 7 marked a transition toward modern web browsing, introducing tools that improved navigation and security.
