iSoundFile can read and write many sound file formats such as .wav, .aiff, .flac and many more. It's also capable of reading and writing broadcast wave information and strings, if the file format supports it. It is based on libsndfile and also uses the library's routines for audio playback via CoreAudio. Source code is released under the GPL.

Trying to convert 16 bit AIFF (Audacity) to 8 bit so I can import into iTunes. iSoundFile crashes frequently when I try to choose a folder into which to convert, or when actually converting. Has crashed in 4 of 6 attempts to use. Also no easy way to batch convert.
Cynic.
