10.3.9 and a G55
E W- Pros

- Summary
- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I recently upgrade from OS 9.1 where I had the HP G55 printing in the foreground because of the poor driver. Now with OS X things seem to have got worse! HP Communications does not seem to hog the processor like other users have mentioned but it still takes over a minute to spool to the printer and I can only reliably print in draft. It is also worth noting that printer presets need refreshing manually. I have investigated printing with CUPS and hpijs + foomatic as well as guten print but have yet to find a URI that works with the usb connection (usb will not work and ptal is not available). I have resorted to using 7.3.1 and renicing all printer applications so that I'm printing in the foreground like I used to do in OS 9. If anyone gets a G series to print with CUPS over USB please post a link to instructions from here.
Seems to be OK (can't comment on FUS)

- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
So far so good. Printing works fine, CPU usage is fine. What is different is that this isn't a simple driver upgrade - is also installs a suite of applications called HP Image Zone. Some are unnecessary as e.g. iPhoto does them and does them better, but the Panorama Stitcher (though basic) does a pretty good job in terms of the end result - better than the Photostitch software you get from Canon with their digital cameras (just nowhere near the same no. of options). I haven't tried scanning properly yet (and rarely use that function anyway), but it seems similar to before... maybe faster. All-in-all, not a bad upgrade as far as I can tell. Still docking one star for how long it took HP to get a reasonable driver out!
Have HP finally got this working?

- Summary
- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Well, after giving up on ever having a usable G85 in OS X it seems that these drivers aren't at all bad. I recently decided to give the AIO another shot as I needed to use the scanner and I am not seeing the hideous CPU usage when idle that prior releases always gave. Too late for me to forgive the crapness of HP with their prior releases, but I can safely say that this latest and last version is OK. Overall rating is -1 star owing to the length of time it took HP to finally produce something half decent wrt to this printer.
Nice try

- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Um, why do we need a driver again? Isn't this stuff standard after all these years? Shouldn't a driver, if required, work? This is HP - they are big - printers are their gig. They were developing leading-edge technology in self-configuring networks. Why am I having trouble with their 42MB driver again? I'm so confused. Why did I buy an HP? Will I do it again? That one I can answer. NO.
It finally works on OSX!

- Summary
- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I have deleted my most recent negative review because THIS release finally works correctly on my Mac. I appreciate HP FINALLY got it right, but I'm still angry about having to wait 3 years for a working driver. I'm still not convinced HP is committed to Mac support, so I'm holding off on recommending them.
Works fine in 10.3 but...

- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
It has worked well for me in 10.3, but still has some issues. Using an OfficeJet G85 with a HP JetDirect hooked up to ethernet network with D-Link wireless router and Airport card in a PowerBook G4 500. There drivers have been fairly bad, but this is much better. Before creating and saving a Preset was worthless and the HP Director was an annoying App. Main problems I have experienced are: 1. Preset problems less of a problem, but still there. I have had to reselect the selected Preset before printing to get it to use them. 2. Now removed from HP Director App, the annoyance is moved to the HP Communication process. This is more of a problem with a wireless connection. The HP Communication process gives constant false errors that are top level windows making it hard to fix the error becasue it kicks you out of whatever action you are doing. FIx is to use the Activity Monitor to kill the process. Would be nice if they would add a preference/option to kill error messages for wireless connections. 3. Printing on wireless connection can create errors that cause long printouts of garbage.

- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
i took the plunge. installed driver 6.3.7 on both my g3 iBook (10.3.2 but not last security update) and g4 iMac (freshly installed 10.3.1) ...both running well though it has only been 12 hours.....i followed drections on this site (full uninstall with removal of preferences as well) and worked from first time. new interface is superior to old as well- sleeker and i beleive about 20% mor responsive/faster. hope it continues.

- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Installed without any problem. All modules seem to work flawlessly. Finally (quite a long wait). However, I first used the AIO Uninstaller to uninstall version 4.7.3 and restarted before installing version 6.3.7. Only problem seems to exist with help: Open help and search for a word. Helpviewer wont open the file but state it doesnâ??t know how to handle the selected url. Apart from that (and the intransparent version numbering), everythingâ??s fine.
