Although this chess game costs nothing and boasts personality, it's tough to overlook its numerous problems. The first downside is Hotbabe Chess comes as a rather large 60MB download and will consume around 75MB of RAM once it's on your machine. As its name suggests, the program lets you play chess against a female who teases, taunts, and encourages you through a chatlike window under the board. You'll also see a Webcam-based movie of your opponent in the interface's lower-right window, but no matter which of the 20 difficulty levels you choose, you'll always get the same girl. She appears to be talking, but Hotbabe Chess lacks audio altogether. To boot, the graphics are rather low budget considering the program's size, and in our tests, the game hung up several times. Chess players looking for novelty value might try this one, but the majority of folks will find its negatives outweigh the positives.

download was an unfamiliar file format, when converted to an .exe format, the file failed to install. Not worth the time it took to download, which was a long time, because of the ridiculously slow download speed.

Well, it is chess for starters. Her openings are pretty basic.

It is as slow as molasses. She takes FOREVER to make a move. It seems the game is more interested in showing you webcam tidbits that are not that funny, rather than play an actual chess game. <p> <p>Honestly, I would not waste the time downloading this one. You'll probably end up uninstalling it.

"Hotbabe" Stephanie is charming, funny, and cute. Although she is called "Hotbabe," she is more often entertaining than sexy, although she is sometimes sexy also. I enjoyed playing chess with a female computer opponent for a change; it was a nice break from my usual opponent, Fritz, and my ugly cigar-smoking coach.
Cons
The lady does not know a single chess opening. This means that on the highest level, one can get an advantage against her in the opening. A common mistake she makes is to develop the Queen too early. <p> <p>Moreover, the program is not very strong; it appears not to play at master level. But this is by design, and only tournament players need a strong program. <p> <p>Note that the sequences on the "webcam" generally play randomly, rarely corresponding to the game, so one must not expect integration or synchronization with the moves.

Unless you are a highly ranked player, this will give you a good game. You can set the level of computer opponent so you can either have an easier game or a tougher challenge. The "web" window is smallish, which is good because then you can't see much of the "Babe." This might be a good program for those who feel the need to train with constant (negative) distractions. Wasn't it Spassky who had people blow cigarette smoke into his face when he trained? This is something like that.
Cons
If you're looking for a "Hot Babe" then you're better advised to go elsewhere. The only thing this program has in common with a "Babe" is that she shares a moniker and likeness with the porcine star of a kid's film from the eighties. If you want an enormous woman in a shirt two sizes too small, with more rolls than an Italian bakery, then this is your game. She will also IM you non-stop with incredibly sophmoric comments. No take-backs, hints, or lessons for beginning players, the board is a non-descript basic affair, and no clock for timed games. <p>Maybe the "Babe" was out and her roommate played in her stead, but I can see no reason to download and keep this game. Get one of the Chessmaster versions, cut out a picture from Victoria's Secret and tape it to your monitor, and you'll enjoy playing chess a great deal more than what "Hotbabe Chess" has to offer.

Hotbabe Chess plays a good game of chess for beginners to experts. It's features include an easy-to-use chess interface, a humorous opponent in a simulated Webcam (she's called Hotbabe), the ability to scroll through the history of moves during gameplay, and the ability to undo one or more moves during gameplay. You can ask Hotbabe for a hint, flip the chessboard to see the black pieces on the bottom, and save or load a game in progress. Hotbabe Chess remembers the current game, and automatically resumes the last game you were playing next time you run Hotbabe Chess.
