Pros
Hands-On Equation 1 app is very easy to use. It keeps tract of multiple users. It has an auto check feature, but the user doesn't automatically give credit when it is used. It reinforces instruction that I have given in the classroom. It is self-paced. Each lesson has an introductory video.
Cons
I think it would be better if it had a keypad to put in numbers rather than rotating the wheel

This is an excellent product. The Hands-On Equation app is the perfect complement for the Hands-On Equation instruction I provide for my gifted elementary students. It is useful for students who need more practice or for those who miss class instruction. It is also great for students who are new to our school who need to get up to speed with others who have already received instruction on Level 1 of HOE. I have the Hands-On Equation 1 app, and I think it's great.

I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE "Hands on Equations" Learning Algebra. It is great for all ages and educational levels. I am 77 years old and taking a course in Computer Science and needed some algebra background for the course. I found this applicatio0n very helpful.

Pros
The instructional videos guide the user through each lesson. In the first two lessons the student gains a solid understanding of what it means for an equation to be balanced. Beginning with Lesson 3 the equations are solved by physically removing pawns from each side. The lessons are graduated, so it is important to go through the six lessons sequentially. The seventh lessons is a review lesson. The Hands-On Equations approach takes the mystery out of working with these equations so that even young students can experience success.
Cons
No equations are presented involving negative numbers, fractional coefficients, or decimal coefficients. This is done on purpose, however, since the focus is on enabling even young students to grasp the most essential concepts related to algebraic linear equations.
Summary
The children who have used the app version of Hands-On Equations always want to come back to it. It is not exactly evident why the digital version holds such fascination for them, since they are doing essentially the same thing they would be doing if they were working with the actual game pieces. Since the app is not yet available for the higher levels of the program (white pawn to represent the opposite of x and the green cube to represent negative constants) the students go back comfortably to using the game pieces for those lessons.
