Editors’ Review
This freeware executable makes it easier to use another program that compresses specific types of files, and even conveniently includes it in the installation package.
GPX downloads with the compression program, UPX, but doesn't add shortcuts to the Start menu or desktop. Launch the program from its folder and a small, very plain interface appears. It consists of a field to enter the file you want to compress, radio buttons to choose Compress or De-Compress, and a few check boxes to choose the compression level and create backups. Once you make your selections, it should take only a click of the Run button to create or open an archive. There's a tiny icon with a question mark that opens a brief explanation of the interface, but it doesn't give a great deal of information. There isn't a way to choose the destination directory for compressed files and the Help file doesn't tell you where the archive will be placed.
It's short on bells and whistles, but this program presents a GUI that makes it easier for experienced users to compress files using UPX.
