Downloaded GPSUtility 5.0 and installed it. Within seconds it was receiving the data from the device and displaying it in the utilility!
Exactly what I wanted :)
Defaulted to 4800 but the device can send higher transfer rate of 19200, which was easily changed in the settings.
I really can't complain as it's free and did exactly what I wanted.
I like the satellite info display, as I do the rudimentary statistics (Lat, Long, Speed, HDG, UTC). Clear to read and real time update.
Earth opened up Google Earth in the correct spot. Only thing missing (minor grip) is a data logger facility so that you could build up a list of points where you have traveled. But in fairness, they never said it would do that and therefore I'm not going to mark it down on a feature they never said it would have. (Would be nice though, developers ;) )
By the way, I'm using Snow Leopard 10.6.2 on a MBP 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and worked fine.

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
A nice, simple little app that works. It gives you the basic navigation info from the GPS. The monitor window is also damn useful when you want to know if the port-serial converter-driver mess is working while you're still indoors without GPS signal.
My thoughts:
-The "no data in 1.5 minutes" warning dialog is irritating. A "no fix" or "no data" message in the main display would work just as well and would avoid the pesky bouncing dock icon too.
-You can force the panes to slide out on the other side by putting the main window near the edge of the screen. It won't remember this between sessions though.
-gpsd support would be grand.

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
For some reason both the monitor and settings pane slide out on the right side. I cannot grab the resize box to move it to the other side. This means I have to close the monitor pane to see/change the settings.
The compass heading changes, sometimes wildly, at very low speeds. This might be minimised by averaging the heading over time, increasing the time interval the slower the speed. At 0-0.2 mph (my current standing still reading) where the position hasn't changed in a while, maybe don't display the compass, grey it out, or do something to note that it isn't very reliable.
Otherwise this is very good. I downloaded it to test my USB GPS (Rayming TN-200) before Route 66 arrived, and it meets and exceeds my expectations. This should be included on all Mac compatible GPS CD-ROMs.

OK...it DOES work.

You know,...it STILL might be.
