Summary
When I was first asked to sample some apps from MEDL, one title that intrigued me was this one - Ghost Recorder for the iPhone. It is advertised as using special technology to pick up supernatural ghost noises beyond the realm of the human ear, the idea of which came from a Canadian now living in Australia.
I live in a very old house that once belonged to the Church, which I considered to be the perfect environment for taking a ghost hunting app for a spin. The interface is an easy one to use for recording, saving and playing your sound clips. My first recording was in my attic space, imagine my horror (no, scratch that) amusement when I hear my ghost travelling on what sounded like the London underground, who then encountered some construction workers that were obviously on a main street, maybe even 5th Avenue because it sounded like it was trying to find a pizza parlour in the middle of New York. Subsequent recordings however, did produce some effective results though - at times there was just a little too much happening in the same clip, maybe the less-is-more tactic would have worked well. That said, trying many different scenarios and periodically recording natural environments where your friends are all talking can lead to varying results and on occasion, be rather quite good.
Overall, if you find yourself with an oppurtunity to spring a surprise on a poor unsuspecting soul in unfamiliar surroundings (maybe on a camping trip in the middle of the night) then you could be onto a winner with the Ghost Recorder. It is not an app for the serious ghost hunter but fun nevertheless and although the lifespan of the app within your circle of friends and relatives may be somewhat short lived, available from the Apple iTunes App Store with a price tag of just £0.69 / $0.99 you can't go far wrong with Ghost Recorder for a few giggles.
