geteduroam is a utility designed to automate the secure configuration of the eduroam Wi-Fi network for the research and education community. This application simplifies the process of joining the global roaming service by provisioning network profiles and installing necessary root certificates directly onto a user’s device. It manages the installation of Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP) configurations, removing the need for manual setup and reducing the technical barrier for students, researchers, and staff traveling to various institutions.
The program enhances network security by ensuring proper server validation during the setup process. By utilizing an institution search function, geteduroam locates the user’s home organization and downloads the specific security profiles required for that campus. It is important to note that this program is exclusively for eduroam configuration and is not applicable for managing other public or private Wi-Fi networks.
