This screensaver lets you get up close and personal with a highly detailed galaxy. Upon launch, you don't actually see the galaxy, but as the camera zooms in, it comes into focus. Once the galaxy is at the forefront of your screen, it spins and moves, giving you a good view of the stars and other matter inside. Galaxy 3D Space Tour Screensaver's graphics look quite realistic, but we must admit we did miss sound effects. Also, the movement of the galaxy was a bit choppy on some older PCs we tested with. If you experience this problem, you might try toying with the slider that slows the animation. Other customization options include the ability to specify the amount of stars in the galaxy and a check box for enabling random camera angles. The trial version does subject you to a nag screen, but it's fairly unobtrusive and moves around a lot, so you still have a decent view of the galaxy. Sci-fi fans and astronomy buffs are this program's target audience, though other users might also find it worth having.

Developer's Description

If you look up into the sky on a clear dark night, far from the intrusive glow of streetlights, you will see a faint band of starlight running across the heavens--the Milky Way. It is actually the disk of our own galaxy seen from our perspective (within the disk). But what if we leave our solar system and the galaxy on a fantastic spaceship and look back to our "space island"? What would we see? This screensaver is an attempt to simulate this fantastic scene as close to reality as possible using modern 3D technologies. You can download a free evaluation copy or purchase the unlimited version to decorate your computer.

We tried to simulate a fascinating space view of the galaxy using the latest astronomical knowledge. Color palettes, spiral galactic structures, dark and glowing nebulae, the position and appearance of the Magellanic Clouds (two tiny galaxies that are satellites of the Milky Way)--every detail has been carefully adjusted to match its actual appearance.
