• A good client for a proven furry role-playing platform

  Access to a solid and proven platform providing the basics of a 2D-2.5D graphical role-playing world, tailored to furries

  Sometimes feels like a hodge-podge of legacy and modern features

  Summary

  Recent improvements, like a buddy list and IM client (Furcadia Pounce), are very welcome, but its legacy constraints are beginning to be a drag. The main client window is still stuck at low color depths and fixed window sizes, for example. But it gets the basics right, and its foundation is still good.

  I am a long time member of furcadia. I enjoy all it's features, and the ability to make your own "Dream". I love playing the game, and always will. I've met some really close friends while playing, and by running my large dream.

  Cons

  The only complaint I have, is the R rated areas, however, they can be blocked with parental controls.

  I have been using Furcadia for years. I started playing in 1996 and I still play to this day. It is nothing like Pokemon, never has been, never will be. If you're looking for a game like that, go somewhere else. Furcadia is not sexually explicit unless you enter the area that allows such talk and play. You can set up parental filters if you're worried about your child entering a place where sexual play can be seen, chat filters and other ways to monitor your younger player.<p>This program allows socializing in a safe environment (The game has the ability to save logs for parental viewing), world building in the form of "dreams", basic computing skills (Chatting, moving and using a computer language called "Dragon Speak"). If this program is still around when I have children, they will definitely be allowed to play.

  For the most part, players enter the world to either roleplay or socialize as a furry (an anthropomorphized animal), mostly using text. It has an enormous number of players, a long history, and its gender ratio is a bragging point. Note that some features are for-pay, and there are sectioned-off worlds which contain strict in-character roleplay or adult roleplay.

  Cons

  The interfaces are obviously old and seem very antiquated, but this does help keep things focused upon the textual elements. If you want a more visual experience, try the 3D graphics of Second Life; there are many areas there with similar themes. SL is also quite a bit more flexible, if you'd rather be a non-furry or use it as a 3D platform for other applications.

  You get to be animals.

  Cons

  The animals are all ugly. The whole place is filled with sexual innuendo, there is not much choice as to what you can do with your character's look, and the movement controls are rather difficult to get used to.
