Defend your allies from the enemy in deep-space battles.

FreeSpace 2 is a sequel to Descent: FreeSpace, covering a period 32 years after the time of the original game. This time the Vasudans and the Terrans have licked their wounds and reached a tentative peace. The two are working together to repair the destruction left by the war with the Shivans. However, a rebellion forces the allies to the edges of their territory, where they encounter the Shivans once again.

The plot also delves into the realms of the Ancients, a lost race tied to the Shivans. In FreeSpace 2, scientists discover a map of the Ancients' dominion with locations of previously undiscovered jump nodes that provide instant transit to distant star systems. Several ships enter those portals, but one does not return.

The game features stunning real-time in-nebula missions with sensor interference and electrical storms; ship battles that include new beam weapons and antifighter flak cannons; 12 new ship classes, including the Corvette-class capital ships; two single-player missions, plus one training mission; two multiplayer missions, including the new 12-player Dogfight mode; and full PXO.net support for multiplayer use, including chat rooms, game lists, and pilot stats rankings.

A taste of the best (Space fighter) game of all time!!

Pros
Graphics still hold up to this day. The Plot is filled with lots of turns and twist. Getting your wingmen killed to say your own hide, or a mission directive, andif your really good you get to fly the fast bird (more on that later)
Cons
Keyboard controls take a bit getting used to, but once u have them you have them. Stupid wingmen doing EXACTLY what u tell them to do (form ON my wing not IN it). NO NETWORK multi-player SUPPORT !!
Summary
The space sim, a forgotten and oft misunderstood Genre, this game gives you a taste of the best that ever was (and will be? Descent Freespace 3 anyone?). just the few missions in this demo will give you more than a feel for the choices that must be made the enemies that must be killed and the needles that must be threaded. A vast improvement over the first (and i still have it installed and play it often thanks to GOG dot com, and while your at it if you want to play the rest of the levels and really get a feel go there and buy this game. For $5.99 USD it will be the best money you have ever spent. for a 12 year old game it still gets looks when i play it on the train... on the netbook (yea thats right) and forget what the specs say, it will run on Win 7, Vista and XP. Some say a joystick (sidewinder) is the way to go with this one.. but trust me an oversized trackball or simple mouse is the way to go, it even works on the trackpad. To close, this is an amazing game; before playing this, I never was all that into flight-simulators, or even flight combat games. After playing this, I fell in love with it. This is a game you need to own, especially at the price of 6 BUCKS!! If you haven't already done so, scroll over to gog.com and buy it . Do it. This is a classic game that does almost everything right, and deserves to be played. think im gonna go play it right now, and thats words from the soul.

Very fun gameplay and interesting storyline. You won't get it as well unless you've played Freespace 1. The best game EVER. I still play it, over and over.

None at all.
Summary
Works flawlessly on Windows XP, unlike other games made for 98 and NT. They really should make a Freespace 3 =)
