Fly Birdie is a game in which your objective is to keep the little birdie in the air and away from obstacles by tapping the screen. Every time you hit an obstacle, you lose a life, and the challenge is to see how far you can get before you run out of lives.

You can play Fly Birdie on either easy or hard mode, the main difference being that on hard mode, the obstacles are closer together, so your path through them is narrower. The birdie moves in a pretty jarring way, and the second you stop tapping, he takes a nosedive toward the ground. If you do hit an obstacle, the birdie will flash for a few moments, making it difficult to see where you're flying and whether or not you're hitting additional obstacles. Also, unlike many of these types of games, the screen orientation is vertical rather than horizontal, so you can't see very far in front of your birdie at any point. Your score is based on the amount of time you spend in the air, and you can add this app to your Game Center to see how well you do compared to your friends.

Fly Birdie is free, but there are quite a few ads that pop up when you're starting a new game. Because they show up so fast when you're about to tap the screen anyway, it's hard to avoid hitting them at least some of the time, and that can get a bit frustrating. There is no option to pay to remove ads, either, but you can pay $0.99 for three additional lives to extend a session if you crash. Overall, this game serves its purpose, although it's not as enjoyable to play as some others with similar layouts and mechanics.
