With a full set of encryption features and algorithms, FineCrypt gives us almost everything we want from an encryption utility. It lets you choose from 10 encryption algorithms and automatically compresses files when it encrypts, not only securing your documents but saving space as well. It includes an option to securely erase the originals of documents it encrypts and gives you great flexibility in setting paths where files and keys are kept. It offers basic password protection for files and stronger key encryption with a single secret key. Beyond that, it also generates key pairs for sending encrypted documents over the Internet and boasts a scheduling utility. FineCrypt's Communicator utility puts your public key in an e-mail so it can easily be shared with others, but there is no plug-in integration with Outlook or other e-mail clients. We like the Windows integration, which lets you encrypt files from the right-click menu in Windows Explorer. This utility is a good choice for people who need or want to keep most of their working and archived documents encrypted.

DO NOT DOWNLOAD UNLESS YOU WANT TO TRY IT FOR 5 MINUTES LIKE I DID THEN I UNINSTALLED IT. OR YOU MAY WANT TO BUY SOMETHING THEY SAY IS FREE

I have read about this program in a computer magazine and tried it. Now it is the encryption program that I use. The main features are: encryption, file erasing, self-extracting archives, sending encrypted files over the Internet, etc......... Very nice program.

Oh, please, don't make me laugh, Brian. Which free program has even a half of FineCrypt's functionality and similarly convenient and intuitive user interface? <p> <p>I'm using FineCrypt for 3 years and don't know absolutely no other file encryption program (free or not) that could be compared with FineCrypt by quality and feature richness. I very recommend it to all. <p> <p>By the way, it's almost free. The only limitation in free version is that you cannot encrypt more than 5 files at a time. I need to encrypt many files and use the full version, but many people I know are using and very satisfied with the free version.

Doesn't support working from the command line, but tech support promised that this feature will be included in the nearest new version.

This may be good if you just want to do a little bit of quick & easy encryption. <p> <p>Don't get me wrong, this is a good product, but there are better freebies out there (keep reading).
Cons
If you REALLY want to do some free encryption, use TRUECRYPT and follow up with ERASER. They're both pretty quick & easy. I also downloaded both of these for free from download.com. Why settle for anything other than the best? Try out TrueCrypt and Eraser first! I don't see any need for FineCrypt.
