• Promising, but a little rough yet

  Supports photos, video, audio content Lots of transitions available Numerous options for frame composition, including backgrounds, text, motion (zooming, panning), insets

  Some features are hard to find Still a number of nice-to-have features limited or missing English translations a little rough in places

  Summary

  Having used Windows Photo Story 3 for a number of years to put together slide shows, I am painfully aware of its limitations. Since Microsoft stopped supporting PS3 years ago, I know these will never get any better. I chose ffDiaporama as an alternative and so far, it's been pretty good. While it takes a little getting used to, it is far more flexible already than PS3 and since it is open source and under active development, I expect it will get better and better over the years.

  Absolutely none.

  Cons

  - Loaded programs without my permission. - Tedious and arcane to use; not user-friendly. - Not for beginners, and, possibly, not even experienced users.

  Summary

  From the description, I thought this program would edit my videos with lots of nifty bells and whistles. Instead, all I got was a "what-am-I-supposed-to-now" program. After guessing how to add two files, I was shown a viewer whose image was about 1" in width and length, making it virtually impossible to view. I then attempted to "join" them, and was greeted with an options pop-up whose values were anyone's guess as to their meaning. Then, although I could figure out how to save the "project", I couldn't figure out where it put the result movie! Worthless to me.
