Editors' Review
A lightweight and elegant RSS news reader, Feedly does a good job at aggregating content from your favorite Web sites and presenting it in a mobile-optimized format, saving you the trouble of having to switch between browser tabs. You'll love its good looks and intuitive controls, but expect to run into problems when trying to watch videos.
Pros
Streamlined interface: Feedly provides a scrollable feed view, which displays article headlines and previews -- tap on a headline and you enter an ad-free article view mode where you can read the content without the distraction of a sidebar. You'll like the fluid navigation and snappy screen transitions.
Intuitive finger gestures: With a long tap, you can save for later any entry in the feed, while with a long swipe to the bottom of the page you can mark all articles as read. These gestures, coupled with the responsive left and right swiping gestures for bringing up the news feed or the sidebar make this app easier to use than a Web browser, especially when you want to flip your way through a lot of content quickly.
Quick sharing: Sharing an article on Facebook, Google+, or Twitter or clipping it to Evernote requires only two taps.
Cons
Not immediately accessible: Reading content is easy enough, but editing your feed and adding Web sites take a while to get used to.
Problems playing videos: While text and photos look great in the article view mode, we've experienced problems when trying to view videos, in that they either did not play or stuttered.
Clumsy search: You can use keyword searches to find Web sites but not individual articles.
Bottom Line
While not perfect, Feedly offers all the functionality you'd expect from an RSS reader. The straightforward interface, responsive gestures, and great reading experience make this a worthwhile app. Whether or not it's useful for you, though, depends on how many sites you follow and read. If it's a lot, then you should definitely try it, especially if you use a tablet.
