"Spider takes Cockroach" doesn't quite have the same ring as "Queen takes Knight," but in the game of Fantasy Chess, it's all the same. Though the graphics are middling and the gameplay limited to beginning levels, this program does follow the basic rules of chess. The gameboard (and most pieces) are two-dimensional, and for some reason you can't choose whether to be black or white; the computer chooses for you.

The trial version does, however, let you choose between dinosaur pieces and classic ones. During the game, you can redo your last move or set up situations on the board for further study, but when we tried the latter feature, we couldn't pick up the game again; it just started over. So to sum up: iffy looks, limited options, and bugs galore--not exactly our chess fantasy.

The AI is without question the worst in any video game ever. pieces donÃ¢Â€Â™t react at all to the way you move I was able to take a queen a rook and a knight with the one pawn once and its the same with all other piece they hardly ever take yours and it never defends its pieces at all Its completely brain dead. <p> <p>The one difference between Fantasy Chess and the millions o f other chess games is that you can use other pieces such as dinosaurs and animals. WHO CARES? Not only are they unimaginative and pointless its also impossible to tell what piece is what and its pretty hard to know what the pieces are meant to be anyway.. This is a hopeless program and worthless as a free game because of the hopeless AI. Marketing it as a paid for product is just completely insane. donÃ¢Â€Â™t bother with this one.

IT has very basic graphics, and very basic sound. Not suitable for the new age. There really are better games out tehre. But its free, so you cant complain.

If your going to play Chess then play chess! Or did Chess become a Kindergarden event. It,s seems that this is for just that! I will Stick to ChessRally, There you can Play the real game without paying a arm and a leg. Nice people there also. I go there just to watch a few games,and chat with friends, or when in the mood will give you a battle. No kindergarden stuff either!

Fantasy Chess lets you play chess using fantasy creatures. Choose from different character sets including dinosaurs, insects, and traditional pieces. Moves are highlighted, and the difficulty levels (10 in all) are designed for beginning players. Veteran players can practice strategic moves. Play against another person or the computer, and use the option to set up the board with situations.
