• Learning is frustrating, but SketchUp is worth it.

  Pros

  Very powerful modeling software. Once you understand how to build and create shapes, you can quickly construct very detailed, very precise objects.

  Cons

  Very steep learning curve to become functional. Learning how to connect two drawn objects together is not well described, and when you figure it out, it is a "Eureka" moment.

  Summary

  SketchUp is very powerful object modeling software, and you can just about create anything with it. Over all, I think SketchUp is an outstanding tool to create 3D models with accurately sized components. Places where it is frustrating can be minimized with more experience in use of the required tools. (Learning how to precisely position and connect two objects, is one example... you need to visualize their final position and identify the two points that need to be aligned together. Then you can click on the first, move the pointer to the second and click on it to complete the movement... If you aren't sure the connection is exactly where you wanted them to be, you can zoom in to get closer to the two points, and modify the movement when you can be more exact.) Its biggest problem is its interface with its new users of modeling software. Experience with other "drawing" software can actually slow you down. For example, let's say you want to create two different sized cubes, and then connect them together at two specific points. You can spend lots of time trying to slide one cube closer to another cube using the move tool, but you won't get far until you realize that you want to match an end or intersection point on one shape to an end or intersection point on the other. When you can visualize where these two points are, you adjust your viewing angle to clearly see both points, then use the move tool to click first on one point then move your mouse pointer to the other point and click on it... the two objects will then be aligned properly. Some of aspects of object movement, and learning how you need to move your observation point of view into a proper location, must be mastered through trial and error before you can become proficient. There are many frustrating features that operate simultaneously and can cause you ongoing problems... Examples include drawing a shape and watching it jump or snap-to any of the three planes of X, Y, or Z during cursor movement. SketchUp is a five star tool to use once you learn how to avoid its quirks. Also don't be surprised if you troll the user forums to see condescension written by some of the expert users/monitors... they are good, but seem to lack patience with newbies who haven't invested lots of effort in reading and absorbing user manual information.

  Pros

  I can in an easeyly way make 3D drawings of nearly all the construycktions I need. Fachinating to se how my house kan be turnd around in all vinkels.

  Cons

  I can not use the brick-coloring fill. Perhaps it consern my "collor-screen" setting up
