Scan your drive for images/pics that are identical or close to it.
Duplicate Image Detector will hunt through your files and directories, detecting images which are identical or very close to identical. No longer will your hard drive be full of the same image copied over and over. Avoid slowing down your website by making users load the same file multiple times. Duplicate Image Detector will even detect images which are saved in different formats but have the same source. If you have a tiff file which has then been saved using different jpeg compression settings Duplicate Image Detector will find all of those images. Version 1.1.0 add a couple of new features to Duplicate Image Detector. The first is the ability to compare a directory of images to the images that you have already processed with Duplicate Image Detector. Once the comparison is complete you have the option of deleting or applying a finder label to the matched or unmatched images. Also version 1.1.0 brings the ability to save a collection of Images. Also to make the management of a collection of images over time easy the ability to check for new, changed or deleted files has been added. Finally the option to add extra directories of images to collection has also been added.

Pros
It is likely that it will be adequate.
Cons
It seems clumsy, and if it finds a lot of duplicates, it looks like it will take a bunch of time. solve your problem.
Summary
when a programer decides to realse a program that he/she is proud of. he releases it complete. But if they think that people who try i, will find that it sucks, they cripple it and make everyone pay BEFORE they find out that it is junk.
Therefore, if you are going to pay for it, i think it is a good idea to see if it works, before it is too late.
It does a goog job.

Pros
It makes finding and deleting a much easier job.m
Cons
It would be nice to have an IPhoto and Aperture eliminator all in one place. It should, I believe, interact with the user in a number of ways.
Summary
It is a step in the right direction.
It still crashes

Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I have TENS OF THOUSANDS of photos I've created over the years, and organization has become a mess. This application has helped me cull out hundreds already, and I'm still working through my list (note: I've indicated that I've used it for less than a month. That's for v. 1.1.1; I've been using other versions for rather longer). This is one of those great apps I registered within a day of first trying.
There were some stability problems with earlier versions--for me, not infrequent quits partway through a LONG detection process (almost 89 thousand photos!!!), but the developer was *extremely* attentive in hunting down and fixing the problem, and it's been fine ever since.
The developer has also been very good at accepting and implementing suggestions (and I've made a lot of suggestions); for a 1.x version, it's quite featured and flexible.
To address some of the issues raised here (mostly regarding v. 1.01):
"The one thing I'd ask for is for the threshold to be adjustable."
It has that, even in 1.01 (look under preferences). You can set it to look for a minimum of 0 to 100% match (in 1/100 of a point increments)
"ability to open image in default image program with double click"
Already there (at least in 1.1.1, and I think earlier versions.) In fact, it even shows the proper icon in the applications! That is, I double-clicked the image, and Preview opened. Then, in Finder, I changed the default application for JPEGs to GraphicCoverter. Duplicate Image Detector immediately changed the icons in the image browser to GC's icons, and double-clicking the image opens it in GC.
"ability to delete highlighted image by using just the delete key (as in iTunes)"
Well, it has Command-Delete for the right-side image, and Command-option delete for the left. Close enough for me. I prefer using a modifier key, actually--helps avoid unintentional keypresses.
"ability to highlight multiple images in list"
I'm not sure why you'd use this. You preview ONE image on the left, and compare it to ONE on the right.
"ability to use contextual menus"
I've used them since 1.01
"ability to use the computer for other things while the program is doing its thing"
Admittedly, it's a resource-hog, but there's a setting to reduce CPU use, which helps somewhat.
"clarification of "Image 1 Image2" in the image menu...."
1.1.1 clarifies this; it's now "Right Image" and "Left Image" in the menus. Much better.
"Making the whole thing more finder-like. (eg, as in RBrowser."
In what way?
"Default to showing only the duplicated images in the list, after all, that's the point."
Added to 1.1.1 (see release notes)
"Auto-select the next image in the list after moving the previous one to the trash"
Agreed.
"For whatever reason, the key commands don't work for me. Cmd-option-D does something with the dock for me, and cmd-d doesn't seem to do anything."
A typo in the key equivalents. It was Cmd-option-delete, not "d". Fixed.
"Better than that would be a button over each image. I would say a button that says "keep this one" but staying with the way the program works, a "move to trash" button would work just as well."
Maybe. I prefer key-equivalents myself.
"Option to highlight the image that is the better quality image. Right now I need to look at the pixel dimensions or file size to see which one I want to keep, and in most cases they are identical in size and dimensions."
Huh! Coincidentally, I emailed the developer the same suggestion.
Excellent!

Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
This is exactly what I was looking for! Aside from file names and somewhat less accurately, file sizes, there is no good way to sort out images that might be duplicated within a collection. I have only used this about half an hour or so, but so far it works perfectly on my iMac G5 20".
Sure there is room for improvement, as there is with any product. My suggestions:
- Default to showing only the duplicated images in the list, after all, that's the point. Similarly, the file browser seems unnecessarily complex. All I really need is a list of the duplicate images, a way to view them, and a way to delete one or the other.
- Auto-select the next image in the list after moving the previous one to the trash
- For whatever reason, the key commands don't work for me. Cmd-option-D does something with the dock for me, and cmd-d doesn't seem to do anything. But contextual menu move to trash works fine.
- Better than that would be a button over each image. I would say a button that says "keep this one" but staying with the way the program works, a "move to trash" button would work just as well.
- Option to highlight the image that is the better quality image. Right now I need to look at the pixel dimensions or file size to see which one I want to keep, and in most cases they are identical in size and dimensions.
Suggestions and limitations aside, it is still worth every penny of the $29.95 price. I registered it immediately after running the first file comparison search and finding it successful at finding the duplicates.
