Image files use up a lot of hard-drive space, and searching for multiple copies of photos can be time consuming. Duplicate Annihilator for Mac helps identify extra copies of the same photo in iPhoto and allows the user to tag the duplicates.

Duplicate Annihilator for Mac searches for duplicate photos in iPhoto. The program is able to remove or tag photo duplicates. When copies of the same photo are found, the program tags one as the original and the rest of the copies as duplicates. This program includes many modifiable elements for searching and tagging of duplicates. This free version allows you to compare up to 20 selected photos at a time or 500 random photos. The limitations on this version prevent you from seeing how long a scan of more than 500 photos would take. This program is definitely made to help organize huge photo backlogs, but unfortunately the free version is restrictive. The full version costs $7.95.

Duplicate Annihilator for Mac seems to be a useful program, but the free trial restricts an accurate assessment. This version would be suitable for personal use as long as you have a limited number of photos in iPhoto. Without the trial restrictions, the full version may be suitable for regular use by amateur photographers.

The only pro is the money their company made out of me for nothing!
Cons
The program took almost 36 hours to sift through my 18,000 photos and after several crashes it marked them as duplicate without listing them next to each other. Am I supposed to grow the whole of 18,000 to find what this lame program same as a duplicate?! Total waste of time and money.
Summary
I bough PhotoSweeper and it did the job in 25mins flat. That is a choice I recommend for anyone who wants the job done - automatically.

I needed to show the duplicates with the originals before I commit to deleting them. DA could not perform this task. Instructions are confusing and missing key information. I was back and forth with Brattoo tech support for over a week trying to get to the bottom of this. I gave them screen grabs, answering their questions etc.. Frustrating... Might work for some, but not with my 18,000 pic database. I'm moving on to using another duplicate finding software. This one is for the birds...ight work for some, but not with my 18,000 pic database. P.S. It took three days plus for DA to tag duplicates...

Installation wanted Adobe Flash Player, which IS installed and the latest version too.

Pros
Manages to do what it says in iPhoto. Finds Duplicates but no certainty that those found are duplicates.
Cons
With first time use, it found 67 duplicates but will have to check each individual duplicate found & placed in trash bin to ensure I don't delete a pic that is not a duplicate. No guarantee that each one found is definitely a duplicate

This program will randomly mark single photos as duplicates. It does the opposite of what it's supposed to do.

I've tried every setting and both magic mode and classic mode. Tried MD5 mode, file name, etc.. It just randomly marks single photos as duplicates. Glad I checked it before deleting photos. It the program can't even see duplicate file names then it need a complete rewrite. Don't waste your money on this junk program.<br /><br /><span class='notifyMsg'> Updated </span>on Aug 7, 2012<p/>I ended up deleting over 10k duplicates Aperture decided to give me, one by one.

Tried the free version - it only sorts through 500 photos, and I could not find where the 'duplicates' were. Instructions say search for 'duplicates' but nothing would display. Tried again with it set to delete duplicates and that seemed to work, but with 9000+ photos, many being duplicates thanks to IPhoto I went ahead and paid for the full version. As soon as I put in the serial #, it could not register & the website would not load anymore. The server - could not be found! I may just go ahead and buy another program instead of dining around with this one.
Summary
Hopefully the website's server will come back up and the registration will work - but the old saying 'you get what you pay for' is absolutely true in this case!

It's effective and straightforward, doesn't mess with your library but just tags originals/duplicates leaving you the power to compare photos and make your final decisions right into iPhoto
Cons
Because it works through iPhoto it can be really really really slow on giant libraries

It appears to be loading all the duplicates & probably is, but I am not sure how to delete them & be sure it is only the duplicates. I have moved some of the photos into folders on purpose.....

Should be better explained. Granted I am computer challenged, but this was a waste of money for me.
