Deus Ex: The Fall for Android

Deus Ex: The Fall manages to capture the flavor and the core gameplay elements of the much-loved franchise into an immersive world with console-quality graphics and sound effects. That said, don't expect this game to be as polished as a console game, neither technically, nor in terms of its gameplay.

Pros

Deus Ex on mobile: With its beautifully crafted game world, every-action-has-a-consequence system, and engaging combat modes, Deus Ex: The Fall succeeds in bringing the futuristic Deus Ex universe onto your smartphone or tablet, packing it into a neat game that's fun to play, even if you're not necessarily a fan of the franchise. You play as Ben, a mercenary who fights to stay alive in the year 2027, in a cut-throat world where humans use tech gadgets to augment their abilities.

Two modes of play: You can go through the game decimating your enemies with a dazzling array of weapons, or you can play stealthily, creeping on your enemies and putting them down with a stun gun without killing them, a mode of play that's much more challenging and rewarding.

Compelling storyline and story world: This release manages to capture the essence of the Deus Ex series through its engaging storyline, as well as through its vast game world, which not only looks stunning, featuring some of the most detailed and striking graphics seen on Android so far, but also offers plenty of content in the form of locations as diverse as Panama and Moscow, usable items, and side missions. You have the freedom to explore every location and, apart from fighting the bad guys, you can also hack computers and gather in-game credits for upgrades.

Cons

Inconsistent last levels: Without spoiling anything, we have to say that once you reach the last stages you can no longer play stealthily but are more or less forced to fire your guns and throw some grenades as well if you want to finish the game. The last third of the game feels a bit rushed; it could have certainly been improved.

Controls could be better: The touch controls for conversing with NPCs or hacking computers are intuitive enough, but when it comes to the actual combat, moving Ben, taking aim, and sneaking past enemies often feels clumsy. You'll need at least 15-30 minutes to get used to the controls.

Bottom Line

Deus Ex: The Fall offers about five to six hours of enjoyable, action-packed gameplay. In return for $6.99 you get a lot: eye-catching graphics, an engaging storyline, a rich story world, and plenty of items, NPCs, side missions, and thrills. Although this title isn't perfect, if you're a mobile gamer, you shouldn't miss it, especially if you're a Deus Ex fan.
