Despicable Me Minion Rush is, at its core, an endless runner, but with numerous other fun bits mixed in for a funny, addictive experience you won't want to put down. The setup time can take a few minutes and menus can be a bit overloaded at times, but when you settle into the game, you'll find it hard to step away, even after you get dinged by an unexploded bomb or fellow minion
The setup for Despicable Me Minion Rush is a bit slow. With opening cinematics you can't skip the first time and extra downloads for file components on the first run-through, there's a wait before you actually get to the game. The menus have a lot of information in them, as well, from the upgrades you can get to the various resources you collect (bananas and coins, mostly), but if you skip through all of that you can dive into the game, where the real joy of this app lies. It's an endless runner with three rails and a load of different obstacles, power-ups and bonus opportunities, and it feels and plays every bit as fun as the movie, with the same silly sense of humor as the minions. The game runs fast and smooth on every device we tested and the levels never feel like filler or redundant as you move your way through labs, houses, and lairs.
Whether you've seen the movies in which the minions play a role or you are just a fan of endless runners or Gameloft's movie tie-in games, this is a great experience. It's free to play and while there are some upgrades that can cost you money, everything in the game is right there for you with the free download, and it is a very deep, very rewarding game if you keep playing. It's a must-download for endless runner fans and Despicable Me fans, alike.
