Play an online multiplayer strategy simulation of global thermonuclear war.
DEFCON is a stunning, online multi-player simulation of global thermonuclear war. The game, inspired by the 1983 cult-classic film, WarGames, superbly evokes the tension, paranoia and suspicion surrounding the Cold War era. You play the role of a military Commander hidden deep within an underground bunker. Your mission - to successfully exterminate your enemy's civilian population while at the same time disabling their ability to attack your own. Start by launching your battleships, subs and bombers in order to decimate your opponent's defenses. Scramble together your alliances, but remember only one can stand victorious.Play against the computer, or even better, compete online against fellow Mac or Windows players for total world domination.Prepare your pre-emptive strike before one of your supposed allies gets the same idea. Choose the perfect moment for betrayal, obliterating your opponents with an apocalyptic thermonuclear barrage, but get it wrong and their devastating counter attack will bring you to your knees! Do you have what it takes to outsmart your opponent? Can you handle the pressure of global thermonuclear war? Remember - nobody wins. But maybe - just maybe - you can lose the least.

There are a few of the typical new software bugs still hanging around and there are trolls out there in multiplayer that can ruin a game since there are no in game tools to get rid of them, but aside from that - worth every penny!
Solid port.

While I played the demo, I kept getting this chilling feeling, like enjoying this was somehow wrong, and that this is an inappropriate topic for a game. On the other hand, that very chilling feeling is probably what the authors were after.
It's really well rendered -- invokes the feeling of the game "Wargames" probably in a way even better than rewatching the movie would do. It's strategically deep and approachable.
Only one nit: my macbook's fan spins up shortly after launching Defcon, and doesn't quit until the game is over. Seems that they have an over-eager busy loop somewhere.
Nicely done! I'll buy this one now.
