  I use this program for a family photo album and am very impressed. The program lets me view my photos on disk in explorer-style navagation and associate user defined attributes and keywords to them, while also reading information stored about the picture by my digital camera (EXIF information). I can make slideshows based on queries, and even export the photo album database in XML if I need direct access to the information.

  Image catalogues are labor intensive - no way to avoid the time-consuming review and classification process. But, Cpics makes the work more fun - and you can see the value added with each step of the process - instead of waiting to the end for your finished product. You can build catalogues with iteration - just like software development. Their docs offer guidance for beginning image classifiers, and you need to give this a good bit of thought before you really begin the work; but you can architect a catalogue in phases without starting over. Cypics has just the right balance of file system and classification scheme dependencies for my work. I like the user interface - and the back-end has been solid for me with the Access db. I run Cypics on a high-end graphics workstation on XP with the usual cast of scanners, burners, and imaging software. I've used Cypics for 6 months in a workflow to review 10,000 images, scan and catalogue 1000. I am using Cypics as a quick way to find images - digital and film - in my portfolio.
