• Perfect compromise: Not for dummies and not too geeky.

  Pros

  1. Simple, easy UI. 2. Numerous customizable features. 3. Tons of keyboard shortcuts built in, good mouse support. 4. Respectably stable - rarely crashes.

  Cons

  1. Utilization of hardware resources is not optimized (This is irrelevant on a good new desktop or laptop since a fast processor easily overcomes minor inefficiencies). 2. Same thing for support/use of software decoding. 3. Doesn't have skins or millions of people backing it in a support community, but if you accept that it is just a simple video player that might not matter, either. 4. Has an overlay during video playback which occasionally scrolls an advertisement - reminding you that it is only the free version. Sometime it has tips instead of ads. Overall, not very annoying (unless your video is extremely boring). I don't mind the cons, too much. Everything is some kind of compromise, right?

  - Pros outweigh cons. - If you have ever used iTunes, Windows Media Player, or Real Player and thought they were great, this application is not for you. - Good Balance -- Avoids pitfalls of many popular players, maintains general simplicity, provides sufficient control of options and is only occasionally clumsy with its interface or obscure in its placement of controls. Also... The occasional advertisement goes away when you upgrade, but switching to the VLC Player is a better idea. Why get the Crystal Player if the VLC Player is better? Crystal Player is cool. You can start using it in a few seconds with minimal annoyance. Besides, why have just one tool when you can download a whole bunch for free? Learning and characterizing each application provides valuable reference when considering new programs of categorical similarity.

  they have a "free version" on download.com that points to their site where you can only download a trial of the professional version download.com should remove this company from their database

  Summary

  i don't trust products from companies that uses tricks and lie-ware. if they do this then there would have no problem including a trojan/spyware in their next update (that the software detects and installs directly from their website)

  I never received a license key. Numerous emails to the company went unanswered. I bought through PayPal and have filed a claim with them.

• A feature-filled media player

  Pros

  Crystal Player is a video/audio player filled with features. It even has its own video kernel (so it doesn't depend on Windows Media Player's codecs and stuff), and is able to automatically detect the required/missing codec and downloads it for you.

  Cons

  It was available in free and paid for versions for a long time, however, now the free variants installs (comes with) adware program. Although it's easy to disable it (you remove/disable the autorun entry in the registry)

  Summary

  In one sentence: Crystal Player is yet another media player (like there're many others, e.g. VLC Media Player, Media Player Classic, BS Player etc.), however, it's quite unique in its way of "doing things".

  Pros

  I like the product, but hates the commercials, which cannot be eliminated - even after you have purchased it. - It still wants me to purchase full version (Done that??) -Very bad.

  Cons

  I cannot remove the adds - even after purchasing. Need a "License key", which cannot be found on MyCrystal :(
