Summary
I have complained to the 4th time that the author sent me the correct registration code but all five failed. They send me a code every time and are informed that the code is not valid. By the fourth time, I asked them to pay back my copyright money but they were silent. I think they are not genuine businesses. Always be careful when buying their products.

None, this software is useless and there is no support.
Cons
The search function is no better than the built in search embedded in windows, when it works. I've tried contacting the developers numerous times with no reply. I had purchased five licenses for my business and ended up then buying a competing product when I could not get any help from copernic. Don't waste your money or your time.

- unreliable - arbitrarily stops indexing - logs are faulty and meaningless on to which makes error tracking impossible - support extreme long response times - you buy the next version (after the previous one never worked) and the problems get wosre so you end up paying double for a product that never worked.
Cons
Getting worse with every release! I am a CDS user of the first days and have introduced this product to many of my clients and thus indirectly sold over 100.000 licences. The current version 6 does not work properly anymore. All you get when you ask support, is a set of succinct answers, denying that the product is faulty and putting you as the user in the focus. Copernic simply does not care. Some of my large scale clients have made the same experience and threw CDS out of their SW-portfolio. Again Copernic couldn't care less. It seems this company has passed it's peak and is on the downward side of the business life cycle. What a pity!
Summary
If you are looking for a reliable product that is built into your business processes, by all means keep your hands away from Copernic products!

All that's positive is that is has a nicer interface than the build-in Windows search

If you spent 15 minutes to figure out Windows' own search tool you can do everything that Copernic does for free! I had a non-functioning version for one year, regularly contacting support and trying new solutions, but it never worked the way it should. Last thing support told me was to try the new version. Well, that worked but after the trial period I had to pay for the new version again, while I never had a good working version in the first place. In the mean time I had gotten used to the free build-in Windows search, which does everything fast and reliable.

Crap support, that is only after your money, while the program they make is extremely expensive for what it is supposed to do. On top of that the software is buggy and does the same thing as Windows search does for free. Don't buy this!

Finds text strings quickly (after indexing); Good document preview (which seems to be improved in v6); Works with Thunderbird Email; Will Index & Find old Earthlink & Eudora Mail Attachments; Less intrusive system usage than prior versions; Easy "Refine" options vary with search type; Trial Version available;

Within (found) document text search highlighting does not work with all file types; Narrowing the results of a search, based on refining the Search Text, should be more convenient.
Summary
Even with good File / Folder organization, finding data can be difficult - given a large enough base of documents. Unless you are willing to commit EVERYTHING to an advanced PIM / Knowledge Database (such as the Excellent RightNote Professional), a quality Indexing / Search program is essential. For personal use, Copernic fits the bill nicely. "Serious" users will want to spend some time looking at the Help / How to Use documents offered by Copernic - especially "Perform an Advanced Search." All-in-all, well worth the entry cost, particularly given that the program is often available at a reduced price.

I configured it multiple times to restrict the indexing to only a specific folder, but it went and tried to index the entire drive anyway.

This USED to be a very good software, the best user interface.

It is going to take you a lot of time, (electric) energy to index all your files and e-mails and then the software is going to lock, and from time to time, it is going to lose all the indexed files and start all over. It is the most unsustainable software I know. It is a waste of electric power. I feel guilty to try to use it. Save the planet! do not try to use it. They gave up developing it.

Compared to native windows search (Win 7 and above), CDS does not merit any pro entry or kudos
Cons
Sluggish performance both in indexing and search of indexed items. There are bad design decisions. Such as clinking on the column headers of the search results panel to change the sort order causes the search to be relaunched instead of just sorting the existing already found entries. Since Search is SLOW it gets very painful if you had lots of results entries that you need to sort from name order to date order etc. They even closed their site's forum to new entries from end users. One of the few last user entry I found was a discussion from a couple of users discussing what product alternative's were available. Version 4 and 5 appeared to get stuck on the network drives, so I deleted them from being searched leaving only one small 1.5 TB drive and told it to rebuild the index, after 5 hours I am going to uninstall the product and write off the cost of multiple Pro licenses for multiple machines. I might reinstall the Pro version 3.5.0.97 that I have license to.

I mourn the loss of this formerly very competent tool. Been a long time Copernic Desktop Search user starting with version 2. I purchased the pro version since I use network drives. With each update through the last update for version 3 performance improved and indexing speed was very good. With Marketing promises of even better performance and 64 bit support, I purchased version 4. Its indexing of even the most basic of items such as file names was so inconsistent, the tool basically was useless. Conversations with their "support" teams simply would say I need to buy the new version 5 to address my concerns. Surprise! Surprise! Version 5 still has poor indexing and search. After 3 days of indexing performance set to "Unrestricted (Use all Computer Resources)", Copernic does not cut it. On local drive I have a Copernic.txt file with info in it. Ask Copernic Search to locate for TXT file type with Copernic as the search term and it takes 34 seconds for it to respond no documents found. For comparison used the Windows search to search "This PC (Win 10) it took 58 seconds to successfully locate the file. Windows had to search 10 drives with the majority having native windows indexing turned OFF (since I used to rely on Copernic for searches). So Win 10 had to just brute force search directories. With Copernic today, it is as if all of the original programming talent is gone AND the company then decided with version 4 to rewrite everything from the ground up with newbies.
