Editors’ Review
We've seen quite a few Cloud-based tools for storing and syncing data. Abelssoft's CloudClippy 2013 is among them, but takes a slightly different approach to many of the tools we've seen. CloudClippy automatically copies data saved to the Windows clipboard -- images, for example -- and transfers them to a Cloud-based account. CloudClippy also packages multiple files together and compresses them before transferring the data. It recognizes images automatically and displays them online via links. You can also create private links for sharing access to files. CloudClippy's basic account is free, and you don't even have to register for it: CloudClippy creates it automatically. Extra storage space is available (for an extra cost). CloudClippy 2013's free version comes with 50 MB of Cloud space and some limited functions. The Premium version is free to try for 30 days and costs $24.90. CloudClippy 2013 is compatible with Windows 8, too.
CloudClippy's Welcome screen includes an optional screencast. As we noted, CloudClippy automatically creates an anonymous online account when you install the software. Our account opened with a dialog in the Notification Area displaying data currently In Clipboard (ours showed empty) and In Cloud. A menu button accessed a Web site and Show Current User Limits, Upgrade, and Log-out buttons. We could expand the dialog to display more data, but we couldn't drag and reposition it. CloudClippy is otherwise very easy to use: Copy some data to the clipboard, and it appears instantaneously in CloudClippy's In Clipboard section. Pressing Upload to Cloud transferred our copied data; clicking on a stored item downloaded and displayed it in a browser window. We copied a JPEG to the clipboard and uploaded it to the Cloud. Clicking it displayed a thumbnail with a URL to open the full image. We could copy and share the address, too. The Cloud menu offers options such as the ability to download data onto another PC with CloudClippy installed, but it's in German -- at least in the free version -- and some of the commands are unclear.
CloudClippy 2013 definitely caught our attention, and it's worth yours, too.
Editors' note: This is a review of the trial version of CloudClippy 2013 1.02.
