• Endless "updating"

  There are nice supplementary icons if you wish to change the default.

  Cons

  The program never ran on my computer. It would say it needed me to "update," then say it was up-to-date and re-ask the first question. The only way to get past the cycle was to quit the program.

  Why would I use a program that doesn't work?

  It does not seem to slow down the computer

  My MacBook has worked 7 years without an antivirus installed. Recently, it played a bit on a couple of occasions and I thought to give ClamXav a try, as I though it might have been bugged up. After running the scan...it found absolutely nothing, which is rather shocking taking into consideration that the Mac has not been protected in 7 years. Therefore, I am not sure if the ClamXav works at all, or my MacBook has been so good to self protect from viruses for so long.

  Summary

  I've read a few reviews and I understood that some users were required to update ClamXav numerous times straight after freshly installing it. It happened to me as well. I've updated it three times in a row, and it did not needed again afterwards. So I am happy so far with it not nagging me and quietly working in the background.

  I installed the latest version but it continuously ask to update the virus definitions: ask, update, ask, update, ... till infinity.

  Cons

  If the previous version was questionable, the latest version is surely worse.

  Pros

  Easy to download-install , runs great & fast , it pin pints all in detail . What other "famed" Mac scanners missed in scanning files , ClamXav always have found if any malware was present ! Thankfully this time around my computer is clean . A big Thank you to the developer :)

  I have used ClamXav since 2005. Mark Allan, a very talented Scot, designed and developed this UI to the open source clamav. I use it so that I will never forward any file that contains a Mac or PC signature to a friend . Plus, my iMac is Malware-free at all times no matter where I roam. I suggest getting the Web site version that includes Sentry (not available in App Store), a 24/7 watcher of ANY file I or any app might download! I also use an optional email script that scans every message + attachment BEFORE it is loaded into my Inbox. Jim Babcock (Mac user since 1991)

  this is a fine tool to have in your security arsenal . ive used it for years. simple , effective and free. where can you find that nowadays ??
