Chronicle for Mac

Chronicle for Mac helps you keep track of your bills, so you don't miss payments. It also offers a clear overview of your financial picture from month to month. You integrate this app with your calendar, and you can also configure notifications to help you stay on top of your finances.

Pros

Clear interface: Chronicle for Mac makes adding bills and viewing your payment history smooth and convenient. You can see all of your bills displayed in a list on the left-hand side of the main interface window. Clicking on one of these takes you to that account's detail page where you can view payment history, among other things. When you add a new bill, you can also include as much or as little information as you want, and the entire process can be completed with just a few clicks.

Links to payment: If you include a payment URL when you set up a new bill entry, you can use that to go directly to the website when it's time to pay the bill. This is an especially convenient feature because it makes it more likely you'll take care of the payment as soon as you receive the notification since everything you need to complete the process is in the same place.

Cons

Calendar limitations: There is a calendar display on the right-hand side of the main interface, and it has marks and icons to show when various items are due. But this calendar is not interactive, so even though you can see that something is due on a day, you can't access the entry by clicking on that day. And the calendar doesn't always display correctly. During testing, we repeatedly encountered issues with the last week of the month being cut off and any bills or income that would have accrued in that week unaccounted for in the monthly tally.

Bottom Line

Chronicle for Mac helps you stay on top of your finances. While the calendar bugs do exist, they don't really impact the overall performance of the app, and the streamlined interface lets you see at a glance where you're sitting financially in both the short and long term.
