CameraVision - Visual Presenter, by Masayuki Akamatsu, turns an iPhone or iPad into a portable document camera for live demonstrations. It routes the device's live video to an external display or projector to support on-the-spot visual instruction and object walkthroughs. The app includes image manipulation controls, alignment aids and a virtual pointer to highlight details. Educators, lecturers, and business presenters gain a compact visualizer suited to classroom and meeting-room use.

External display connectivity covers both wireless and wired output, giving presenters multiple options for projection. Supported paths include AirPlay for Apple TV connections and direct wired output via HDMI, VGA, and USB-C adapters. The app also maintains compatibility with older standards such as Component cables, which expands its use in rooms with legacy AV equipment.

How does CameraVision link an iOS device to an external screen?

How does CameraVision handle live imaging and capture controls?

Hands-on camera control provides manual white balance and exposure lock so presenters can stabilise image appearance under varied lighting. The tool allows switching between front and rear cameras during a session, and it can capture live frames directly to the device Photo Album for later reference. These controls help maintain consistent projection when moving between materials.

Is the interface designed for presenter-focused workflows?

Presentation-first interface keeps audience screens clean by showing only the camera feed on external displays while the presenter retains control on the device screen. That separation reduces distractions for viewers and keeps annotation or pointer actions private to the presenter’s device. The approach supports single-operator setups commonly used in classrooms and small meeting rooms.

What platform support and author background inform stability?

Compatibility and provenance target mainstream iPhone and iPad hardware, with current releases requiring iOS 12.0 or later while legacy builds supported older system versions. The app comes from Masayuki Akamatsu, a media artist and educator known for experimental iOS tools and the iOS Textbook project, which explains the app’s focus on live media handling in teaching contexts.

CameraVision - Visual Presenter 0/1
  • Pros

    • Supports AirPlay, HDMI, VGA and USB-C external output options
    • Manual white balance and exposure lock for controlled imaging
    • Presentation-first output hides on-device controls from the audience
    • Captures live frames directly to the device Photo Album
  • Cons

    • Limited modern high-resolution output; 4K support not consistently available
    • Current releases require iOS 12.0 or later on devices

Bottom Line

CameraVision suits presenters who need a compact live visualiser, with a caveat

CameraVision is a practical option for educators and presenters who need a compact visual presenter for live demonstrations and object walkthroughs. One trade-off: users have noted that updates to support modern high-resolution standards such as 4K occur infrequently, which may limit future-proofing for venues adopting higher-resolution projection. For ad-hoc classroom and meeting-room projection, CameraVision remains a reliable, device-first workflow choice.
