A handy tool

- Summary
- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Calq always comes to help whenever you need to quickly multiply/divide(/add/subtract) a short serie of numbers. It is NOT a powerful scientific calculator (and I believe its authors did not intend it to be so). But it does its job really neatly! Just press CMD+Option+C and there it pops up from nowhere! And after you're done, just press ESC (or copy the rsult in the clipboard) and it glides away as it came. The settable preferences are not too much nor too few - they're just what you need. The small icon in the menu bar takes away as little space as needed (something important if you have a 12" iBook and LOTS of applications which show up in the same bar!). AND it comes for FREE! Great job, guys! I do really recommend this app to anyone who needs it (so, practically anyone - full stop)!
Sheer brilliance

- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
The ease of use of this little app puts it way ahead of any other simple calculator out there (and of a lot of not so simple ones too). I've been using the RPN widget - does a few more things but nothing most folk want very often and there's the added step of going in and out of dashboard to get there. Calq is there instantly when you want it, gone when you don't. And with the user-definable keystrokes it is very versatile: for example, it doesn't come with "e" built-in but it takes three seconds to teach it that typing an "e" means 2.718281828459045.
Of very great worth

- Summary
- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Following the totally groundless rant from Cravencondor, I have to even the balance. Calq is one of those totally invaluable products that I absolutely wouldn't be without on any Mac I use. It is an application (so, Cravencondor, it will be located wherever you chose to put it on your Mac, and nowhere else) which you can set to automatically launch every time you start up your Mac by putting it in your Login Items. Once launched it sits in the background until you need to use it. Then, by typing the user-selectable key combination (note again, Cravencondor) a black semi-transparent box appears on screen. You can then use this to perform a calculation and get rid of the box by hitting the escape key or clicking anywhere outside the box. What's not to love about it? It is a simple and fast way of performing those inevitable calculations which one needs to perform from time to time with a very low overhead. Invaluable, totally invaluable. BTW, when the box is on the screen you can click on the word "Preferences" which sits in the bottom right hand corner to bring up the preferences dialog. What's so difficult about that?

- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
so you download the program you get a window that says you apparently access the program with option C and that is the last that you see of it nothing happens - it does not respond - I cannot find it anywhere- I cannot even throw the app away since mac says it is open- but I cannot quit it since it does not show up in the "force quit applications list" the author claims it is unobtrusive- so unobtrusive that you cannot use it or delete it the VT page does not list which OS it works with the authors web site name says it all "makesnosenseatall" the author gives no info on how to uninstall this thing seems very dangerous well i just found that the hot key is cmd option c not what the welcome window says the welcome window only appears once after that you are on your own- what arrogance but i still cannot find anyway to throw it out spotlight cannot find where it hid its files so I am stuck with this disk image on my desktop that I cannot delete
fantastic!

Light, clean and useful

- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I've been using Calq for a while now (having it pop up over the numbers I'm entering is very useful), and amazingly the first time I had a problem was yesterday, the same day a fix was posted for what was undoubtedly what I ran into!
Discontinued?...

Brilliant - minor caveats

- Summary
- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
This is an extremely useful and brilliantly implemented little utility which I use all the time. Two minor comments, though: 1. Why no option for commas in long numbers? This makes larger numbers much harder to read at a glance. This should be a trivial modification to make and I just can't understand why an application which is otherwise as well implemented misses this feature. 2. I mistakenly tried to put an "=" sign in one of the standard calculation fields to complete the calculation (like hitting the enter key) and after that Calq stopped appearing when I pressed the activation keys. The application was still running, it just didn't appear. The only way to fix this was to trash the plist file. As an aside it might also be useful to support the use of the = key in the way I tried to use it!
