This program handles its main job of PDF conversion well enough and offers several helpful extras, but its confusing, poorly designed interface may scare off some users. Besides the ability to convert documents such as Excel spreadsheets and Word documents into PDFs, the app also boasts features for splitting, joining, encrypting, and decrypting PDF files. However, when we clicked the system-tray icon, we couldn't find the main conversion feature. We had to read the help files to learn that Business PDF Writer installs itself as a printer, and that you must print your selected file to transform it. We really wished the developer would have put all this utility's features into one integrated interface for easy access. Still, the program performs well enough, quickly converting, splitting, and joining all files we threw its way. The encryption feature gives you a high degree of control, letting you allow or disallow such actions as changing or printing a PDF. If the developer would only hammer out the problematic interface, we think Business PDF Writer would be a more compelling option.
