Editors’ Review
Fans of role-playing action games and first-person shooters will want to download Borderlands 4 for Windows, which offers a host of action and adventure on the space frontier. Players reunite with the unwavering Vault Hunters on a new planet in the fifth game in its namesake series.
Weaponry is aplenty when you get to Kairos, and that’s a good thing because it is under the tyrannical jurisdiction of the Timekeeper. You seek wealth and glory; to earn your spoils, you must prove your skill in action. You can build with deep skill trees of movement abilities, which you can use to overpower enemies. In your quest to overthrow the Timekeeper, you’ll be part of a cataclysmic threat to the Timekeeper’s precious Order as chaos ensues.
Apocalyptic Combat
Borderlands 4 is distinct for several reasons, chief among them its seamless design that allows players to travel among locations in the game without passing through a loading screen. Beyond that, the action occurs on an entirely new planet, which also ushers in a new cast of characters. The designers intentionally created a landscape distinct from Pandora, opting for a tech-advanced but rough-hewn aesthetic.
It’s your job to spark the uprising against the Timekeeper’s regime and his army of synthetic followers. Called the Order on Kairos, you’ll explode masses of mechanics, face off with murderous bandits, and battle frightening beasts. Your protection is your arsenal, which you use to rain death by firepower in your trek across Kairos.
Play solo or team up with three fellow players to dominate. The expansive sci-fi narrative has boss battles, freestyle combat, looting, and exploration. The roster of haunting characters and the game’s tongue-in-cheek humor keeps you engaged, whether you are playing solo or in a group.
Pros
- New characters for the fifth title in the series.
- Seamless play without loading screens.
Cons
- The open-world structure does not apply to other planets.
- The violent narrative is not appropriate for all audiences.
Bottom Line
Bold and unhinged, Gearbox Software’s Borderlands 4 promises a host of destructive action in the looter-shooter sci-fi reality of Kairos. With rich visuals and a realistic style, players can choose from various fighting styles and become immersed in new narrative storylines that continue the game’s seamless structure.
What’s new in version varies-with-devices
- New vehicles and tools, including a grappling hook.
