Editors’ Review
Based on the popular board game, Baseball Highlights 2045 imagines what the national pastime might be like decades from now when robots and cyborgs join humans on the diamond.
Pros
Clever backstory: To combat football's growing popularity in the U.S., baseball introduced cyborgs and robots and shortened the game to six innings to boost the excitement of the game. Humans, known as Naturals, still play but are better fielders than hitters against the overpowered machines.
Easy to play: It's kind of like baseball but very much like a card game. You build a deck of 15 player cards -- containing human, cyborg, and robot players -- and then take the top six cards from your deck to create your lineup. Each card has offensive and defensive actions, and you play one card an inning, with the actions on the card determining the outcome of each inning.
Fast paced: A game moves briskly as you play your six cards through six innings, one an inning, with the game resolving card actions as you move through an inning. After each game, you can use points you earned to buy new cards, sending players down to the minors to make room
Helpful tutorial: The game comes with a helpful tutorial that gets you going and offers guidance on advanced strategy.
Cons
Better on a big screen: The game's interface lacks a bit of polish, and on a small screen, the gameboard can feel a bit small.
Bottom Line
You supply the hotdogs and beer, and Baseball Highlights 2045, a $3.99 strategy card game with its slightly twisted take on the future of baseball, will provide the rest.
