Editors’ Review
Authy lets you add an extra level of protection to your account log-ins by authenticating them with a code from your phone. You can add any accounts that support two-factor authentication, including Dropbox, Google, LastPass, and Amazon Web Services, to ensure your transactions on all of these platforms are safe and secure.
Pros
Extra protection: With online security becoming more of a concern every day, anything you can do to make your accounts more secure is a good move. This app ensures that, even if someone has both your user ID and password for a given account, they can't get in. They would need to have your phone as well.
Easy add: To add tokens for each of your accounts, all you need to do is take a photo of the QR code the site provides through the app on your phone. This code will show up once you've turned on two-factor authentication, and Authy just reads the code and creates a token, so you can move on to the next account.
Cons
Inadequate instructions: While the process of setting up two-factor authentication and adding accounts to your phone is a pretty straightforward process once you get the hang of it, the instructions this app comes with really don't help at all. They display in tiny print with equally tiny screenshots, and there's no way to zoom in or view them in landscape orientation. And even if you can read them and follow along, many of the screenshots are out of date and don't actually match what you'll see on the screen as you move through the steps outlined on your own computer.
Bottom Line
Authy is a great option for adding an extra level of security to your account log-ins. It's free, and once you get past the initial setup challenges, using the app is quite intuitive and convenient.
