Audio player, recorder & stream encoder for broadcast/web.
AudioRack is an open-source radio broadcast automation and live assist system for Mac OS X computers. The system is composed of three major components: 1. arserver - faceless (daemon) eight bus audio server 2. ARManager and ARStudio - User interfaces 3. database server (MySQL 5.1 or latter supported) AudioRack Suite supports eight players (by default, configurable for more or less) which can play any QuickTime supported audio file format or play through from an audio input device. The system also supports a single "playlist" which when automation is enabled, is kept filled with either singly scheduled items (inserts) or items from the most recently scheduled playlist rotation. The playlist will automatically load/unload/play the eight players as if a DJ were operating CD players. The system also can perform shoutcast and RSP stream encoding and mp3, wave or aiff file recording from any of its output busses or from an input device. All inputs, outputs and recorders now support AU effect stacks.
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />Perhaps this is not as daunting as it appears to me, but having to install a MySQL database seems like a lot of work. I had hoped this might be a good application to use to run cues in a theatre from a Mac, but installing the DB seems to be a bit more than the average user might want to try.
So i will not rate the software, but do hope there is a way to use it w/o the DB (maybe it could read the iTunes library directly?)
But it looks like the features are all there. If I get more time on my hands, I'll try again and install the DB. I needto know more about that. It seems Adobe is the only product on my Mac that has an MySQL DB at the moment. <sigh>.
