Editors’ Review
aText for Mac's basic and intuitive interface makes it a great choice for defining and using frequently-used phrases instead of abbreviations to speed up typing and make it more convenient. With its default choice and ability to create custom combinations, the application includes all of the features users would expect from this type of program.
As a free trial version, the program operates without restriction for 14 days, but unlocking the full application costs $5. After starting up and requiring an activation of the assistive device features on the computer, aText for Mac presents a rather basic main menu that lacks advanced design features. Fortunately, it is easy to interpret. Buttons along the top allow for creating new shortcuts, as well as sorting and grouping them for easier location. Once entered, users can preview the changes as well as alter the font and look of them. In terms of use, after typing in the shortcut combination, the application automatically adds the corresponding phrase. This worked well during testing in every program, from text editors to browsers.
aText for Mac performs well and is easy to use, making it a good solution for users looking for a program to quickly create keyboard shortcuts for often-typed text.
Editors' note: This is a review of the trial version of aText for Mac 1.6.1.
