This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Purchased my dual 1.8 in June with the firmware v5.18f3. Updated to v5.18f7 and things are still going smoothly.
Else then the fact I was praying Steve J. for the safety of my G5 when it was flashing the firmware, I have no negative comments on this update.
If it's true that it was necessary to insure further system update in the futur, well hey. Hope it was for the best and that the ride will stay smooth.
Hmm, kind of worried

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Well, everyone else said the firmware update was fine, so I applied it in my 2.5 ghz. Worked well, no problems. Then when I went home and came back I found my G5 crashed and in "super loud" mode. It's okay after restarting but I'm worried.
This solved my FAN PROBLEM

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
My fans always slept when I slept my SP 1.8 G5 up thru OS Update 10.3.4. With updates 10.3.5 and 10.3.6, as soon as I slept the computer the screen would sleep, the HD would sleep, BUT THE FANS RAN. I had to re-install from scratch up thru 10.3.4 to get the fans sleeping again.
But when I heard about this firmware update, 5.1.8f7, I gave it a try, having read that this Uniprocessor Update (good on all G5's) had solved other users fans-running-during-sleep issues.
SUCCESS!!! THIS SOLVED MY FANS-RUNNING ISSUE!
I recommend it if, for no other reason, you want to solve this problem!
(Installing this requires, at a minimun, OS Update 10.3.5 -- and then do the firmware update).
No problems

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Well Installed on my Dual 2.5 G5 with out a problem.
I didn't notice anything on the cooling side. I find to cooling is a pain on this mac.
It seems like it has two settings, low fan speed and high fan speed nothing in the middle.
If I ran seti all you can hear is the fan going faster/slower/faster/slower/faster etc etc
Its there a way to set a minium setting so it doesn't use the slower setting?
No problem on my Dual G5 2,5

All cool on my Dual 2.5 too...

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Well, I just got my dual-2.5GHz box yesterday, so I figured I could revert back to my older Mac without too much pain (other than emotional) if something went wrong.
Installation was as smooth and easy as you can imagine, with no ill effects so far. I'm not sure what it improved, but it doesn't appear to have broken anything.
No problems

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
What the problem with those guys at Cupertino ? About one of two updates causes problems now. But this one takes the cake. My G5 1.6 is totally unusable now. Crashes every two or three minutes. DO NOT INSTALL THIS SH*T !!!
Hey, Apple, do you even test your crap before releasing it ? Do you want us to really hate you ? Well, in my case, you succeeded.
Aaah, what a relief!!
