Multiple applications and their stray files may present problems when you're trying to clear a computer. Offering a rather simple interface and operation, AppDelete for Mac cleans unwanted applications from your Mac with ease.

AppDelete for Mac is available as a free trial version with a limit of five deletions; access to the full version of requires a payment of $7.99. While small, the program takes a long time to download and there is no native installer, but it does start up cleanly and quickly. There are no instructions and support does not appear to be present, but the program's simple purpose and intuitive interface make it easy to use. A small window opens allowing the user to drag unwanted applications into the program. After a short analysis, AppDelete displays the application selected for deletion and any stray files. This allows the user to confirm the files to be deleted. Once they're selected, the program performs the delete operation quickly. Less intuitive operations, including manual selection, can be accessed by pressing small buttons at the top of the program box. Better labeling here by the developers would have been helpful. One of the more helpful additional features allows the user to search the computer for unused applications and files that may have been part of an incomplete uninstall. Beyond this, there are few features to the program, which is a disappointment since it is not freeware. It does perform its stated operations well.

For those users who install multiple applications on their Mac, AppDelete for Mac performs complete uninstalls easily with a simple interface.

Probably the best uninstaller of its kind.

Gets more "hits" safely and efficiently than other uninstallers because the algorithm is better.

Summary
There are many place on the mac where remnant files reside when uninstalling an app you no longer want on your system. Virtually every uninstaller, even the very expensive ones, ignore certain hidden folders and their sub-folder which are loaded with remnants (.bom and .plist files, .playlist files and help files). I guess that if one doesn't see them because they can't normally be seen that they are considered not there! After trying out every possible uninstaller and using AppDelete, I happened upon a small utility called FindAnyFile by Thomas Templeton. After using earlier versions of AppDelete 4.xx which is pretty feature rich, I would alway use FindAnyFile, searching on a unique name of the app and/or its developer and see certain files over and over again that no uninstaller, not even AppDelete removed. I wrote Reggie Ashworth, the developer of AppDelete and sent tiff files to him of the paths to these remnant files and he carefully included all of them over time into AppDelete in a safe and conscientious way, making sure that his beefed up algorithm never removed files that would break another one of your apps. Now AppDelete is at version 4.2.5 and Reggie has been so thorough that is is seldom necessary for me to use FindAnyFile any more. There are some apps like Antivirus apps which put files in strange places or do not follow predictable app/developer naming. Except for these, AppDelete is better at removing more remnants than other uninstallers!

I've never written a review for any apps, but have to for this...Very easy to use, and very useful!!! I've only had 2 "issues" with this app and one was totally my fault...Each time, the developer had me up and running asap!!! I was very impressed!!!

It does a thorough job of removing all of the files associated with any app that I want to delete. As a 27-year DOS and Windows user, I was accustomed to having the ability to completely remove applications with an OS utility. It was still necessary at times to scour the registry. When I switched to a Mac and OS X two plus years ago, I realized that the ability to completely delete apps did not exist in this OS. Deleting the app did not remove all associated files, and locating them was sometimes tedious. I was very happy to find AppDelete, and have been using it successfully ever since.

AppDelete is an uninstaller for Macs that will remove not only Applications but also Widgets, Preference Panes, Plugins and Screensavers along with their associated files. Without AppDelete these associated items will be left behind to take up space and potentially cause issues. For a proper uninstall don't just delete but be sure to AppDelete. You can drag any item that can be uninstalled onto AppDelete: Applications, Widgets, Preference Panes, Plugins, Screensavers, etc. You can also activate AppDelete in many ways: dragging items onto main window, onto dock icon, selecting in menu, right-clicking using AppDelete workflow, and throwing items in the trash. When the preview screen appears you can uncheck any items you would like to exclude. You also have several choices: delete the items, log only the items, or archive (copy) the items to a .zip file for safekeeping or reinstall at a later date.

The items you delete will be moved to the trash and arranged in a folder so that you can see exactly what was deleted and you know exactly where it came from. The items will not be removed from your computer until you empty them from your trash. You can also undo the last delete if you choose. There are various options to make your AppDelete experience complete: Quick search filters to help choose items for deletion, Force Empty Trash, an Orphans feature to search and delete orphaned files, Install from Archive even for another Mac, various options in Preferences.
