Amazon Kindle provides you with a huge array of e-books, magazines, and more that can be synced to multiple devices via cloud storage. The newest additions to the e-book reader application are somewhat small but helpful; however, more personalization options are still needed.

Pros

Superb e-book reader: Amazon Kindle's reader now offers multiple highlighter colors, following the recent update and also offers a very helpful copy/paste function. Navigating books is very easy with the reader's sidebar menu that allows you to jump from chapter to chapter. Font size and page design can be manipulated to ensure the best readability possible.

Excellent organization: Downloaded texts are neatly stored in the Kindle application and are helpfully arranged by title, author name, or most recently read. This is very helpful for those that have large libraries of purchases.

Enormous library: Amazon Kindle offers you hundreds of thousands of texts for download, so you will never get tired of this application. Many full-length books and magazines are offered for free as well.

Cons

Few personal options: While the Kindle e-book reader can be customized extensively, the application itself cannot be changed in the slightest. A dark color scheme that can be difficult to see is the only option available, so you may be displeased with the lack of control you have over Kindle.

Bottom Line

Very few applications give you all the features provided by Amazon Kindle. The e-book reader and library of books can easily be labeled the best on the market. We recommend downloading Amazon Kindle because very few applications on the market are as expansive and sturdy as Kindle.

Pros
Ability to highlight & bookmark, and then return to those locations easily. Adding a bookmark is as simple as touching the top right corner of screen and the corner of the page 'folds'. Very cool. Ability to change font size and background color, white, black or sepia. So reading in varying light conditions is comfortable. Carousel view of all my downloaded books, with visible % percentage of read. Ability to lock view in by touching lower right-corner and locking or unlocking small lock icon. (portrait or landscape).
Cons
Cannot change font type. (Serif or Sans-Serif) depending on type of literature. No major cons.
Summary
Totally GREAT App! I wanted to buy an Amazon Kindle Paperwhite, which has all the extra features not available on this app. But am travelling in Europe and Asia, so i got started with this app on my Android phone for now. Very impressed! I have full access to the Kindle Store and i can preview or purchase books. Can't wait to get my own Real Kindle Paperwhite, but for now this is a great way to start reading all of my downloaded .mobi books! Thanks Amazon Developers for this great Android App! ps. I am using Kindle Version 4.1.0.66 on a Samsung Android phone, Excellent!!!

&#8226; The main feature that I can't find elsewhere like in the free Aldiko reader is the highlighting and notes feature. &#8226; A second minor advantage is the easy access to commercial books. If you just want to read freely available classics go elsewhere.
Cons
&#8226; The latest version 3.5.1.1 (as of summer 2012) is a disaster. Startup time on my Droid/Milestone deteriorated from ~20 seconds to a full 2 minutes. So long in fact that the Android OS repeatedly asks whether to force close the slow application. I'm getting Astro to be able to reverse future "downgrades". &#8226; The notes/highlight feature crashes and completely deletes your personal data. I have read a total of 10 ebooks using Kindle for Android. With dozens to hundreds of highlights. For 4 of those books my highlights where completely wiped out. That's hours of work gone and a huge disappointment. &#8226; The highlights synchronisation feature does not work reliably. Before the last notes crash, I synchronized with the Amazon servers. Yet after the crash, the server didn't contain the notes that I thought I had backed up. Meaning that even though the reading position was properly updated the notes and highlights were actually not copied to the server.
Summary
When it comes to reading I seen no advantage of the Kindle Android app over for example the small company competitors like Aldiko. The highlight and notes feature is the ONLY thing that I cannot find there and it is a powerful feature, esp. if you want an reader for professional ebooks. Yet, despite tens of thousands of employees the Amazon Kindle reader is far from professional, got much worse in the latest version, and regularly wipes out your data and wastes your time. I went through a drawn out trouble shooting process with Amazon over the phone and the only thing that I got at the end was the useless comment that it was a known bug and that it may be (!) resolved with the next release for which they couldn't give me a date or even an estimation. I'm looking for more professional solutions elsewhere. If you need an ebook reader for work or intensive leisure use, you should too.
